Default 7AT question (and brake caliper sidenote)

09 Touring 7AT, 64,000 miles...

After searching through the other threads related to the 7AT, I'm gonna assume when you're in manual mode in the 7AT, and you're slowly coming to a stop without downshifting, the 2nd gear to 1st gear automatic downshift jerk/slight grind is normal? Most people just say to flip it over in D?

as a side note... I had the drivers side (non-sport) rear caliper seize up on Thursday, went to Bowser Nissan... They wanted $411 for a new one. Advance Auto Parts wanted $74 for a remanufactured, but make sure if and when you have to do this, you trade in the core, you keep the bracket and give them back the bracket that comes on the reman.

The caliper/piston are the same on the reman., but the bracket on the reman. doesn't have the 4 cooling fins that stick out, probably nothing, but to me it'd look goofy to not have the rears match. (see pic)

If I keep it in manual mode I occasionally have the jerk from 2 to 1. I think it's normal but I do try and keep it in D to avoid this. But it is so fun to downshift from 3 to 2 haha

always let it shift itself from 2 > 1 and the slight jerk is normal. the gearing in the 7AT down low is mean so it's nothing to worry about lol

now if it's grinding i may not think that is ok.

my Z is in manual mode 99% of the time. i run the gears all day. i do downshift to tranny brake a bit to save my brakes as well. again 2 to 1 is a no-no though. you should be fine.

I experience this often as well. I dunno if I'd call it a grind but i do here something when this happens. You have to listen real carefully for it. I've read theories on here that the 1&2 gear change is different somehow do to it being so short but I'm not sure I believe it. I just pray it's normal I don't even have 10,000 miles yet.

Right, I said "slight grind" because I don't know how to describe it, because you don't really feel it, just hear it - like you said, you have to listen carefully for it.

Just had the 1-2 downshift happen over the weekend. Really hard to verbalize to anyone that has not experienced it.

While I think "normal" might be too nice of a word to describe it - It is "typical" of the 7at manual shift mode behavior.

Nothing to worry about and listen to the other guys about shifting back into D to avoid it.

I actually notice it while in D as well. It's deff still there sometimes although it's harder to catch since u don't no exactly when it's gonna happen like in manual mode.
