Help! Clutch Problems!
I tried posting a video but it is not cooperating. I will try to describe the problem the best I can. My CSC was replaced over the weekend at a local stealership (unfortunately). I also requested they replace the pilot bearing, but they apparently "forgot" according to the service advisor. I am experiencing a god awful screetching/howling/grinding noise when the clutch engages from a dead stop in first gear and reverse. As soon as the clutch engages and I start moving, the noise stops. No other problems besides this. No grinding gears, etc. Again, this only happens when taking off from a dead stop in first and second gear when the clutch is engaging. Also the noise doesn't occur all the time. I would say about 60-70% of the time. I put it on a friend of mines lift to let him listen to it and he said it was coming from the rear of the transmission and not the clutch area. From what I've read on the forum and other places, my guess is pilot bearing? Or could it be the trans itself? Please help!
*Update* I tried taking off in 2nd gear and the noise occurs also. |

The pilot bearing is at the rear of the engine and not the rear of the transmission. Sounds like a tranny problem.

Well it was making the noise before the new CSC. So I don't think that was the issue. And yeah the clutch is engaging but it definitely sounds like something that will cause damage in the future.

It didn't make the noise before they worked on it, so they get to fix it.

Sounds like a worn pilot bushing, The pilot should be changed with the clutch, Sometimes you can get lucky and it won't make noise but for some reason the 370Z is inherently bad for pilot bushing noise if you do not change them, I have seen this MULTIPLE times with the 370Z from customers that though they could get away without changing it.
Pilot bushings will grind/howl when you are starting to release the clutch, They can also make noise at idle it rare cases. It's included in the clutch and takes 2 minutes to change, No reason not to.
