Help...Dealer says that I need a new clutch!
Here is what is happening. I have a '09 MT with 46K miles. After a long trip in OCT my clutch pedal was on the floor. I had to pump it several times to get enough pressure to disengage the engine. After reading the forum I assumed that I had a CSC problem. I drained the factory fluid and replaced with the higher spec synthetic fluid. No problem for about two months then it showed back up again. I am OK to drive around town, but cannot take long trips on the highway, and the pedal is still soft.
I took it over to the dealer to see if I could get a warranty repair of the CSC. They recommend a Flywheel, Clutch disc, Clutch plate, Release bearing, Pilot bearing; all for a grand total of $3050 installed. I said no way. I don't see how any of this will help the pedal issue. The tech mentioned some hot spots on the fly wheel and some rattling noises, but this solution does not make sense to me. I have not experienced the shudder/judder issues and the clutch is not slipping. I have never tracked the car and in general I pretty much baby it. I never drop the clutch at high RPM's. I have been driving MT all of my life and never had clutch fail before 100K miles. Any help would be appreciated. |

Yeah thats crazy. Even if you did need a new clutch/flywheel, personally I wouldnt go with OEM anyhow. The OEM flywheel is crazy expensive in itself.

You actually got lucky. You just figured out you need a new dealer before the car is undriveable. Go to the local subforum and figure out who is good and reasonably close to you.

And if you want a stock clutch, make a WTB thread, but you can get one for $100-200

Based on what I have read the aftermarket one is the way to go. Thanks for the heads up on the WTB thread. I doubt that I need a new clutch, but I will take it to another dealer and see what they say.

I mentioned this earlier today on another post about going with the ZSpeed HD CSC and the JWT HD Clutch & Flywheel. I spent $1,073 for the two plus installation. I wouldn't get a factory CSC b/c it will be a matter of time before it goes out.
