Thermostatic Sandwich Plate Question
I am looking at getting a thermostatic sandwich plate for my oil cooler but just have a quick question. I currently have a relocated filter plate on the car which has a single line running over to the oil filter. Then from there line runs out of the relocated oil filter and to the cooler then back around to the relocation plate on the engine.
The purpose of the plate is to limit flow to the cooler under colder conditions. I am concerned about the thermostatic plate stopping flow to the oil filter. Would the thermostatic plate have to be installed between the relocation plate and the engine? If that is the case I am not sure I will have enough room to do this. Any pointers would be appreciated! Thanks Mitch

The plate doesn't block flow, it just redirects the flow through the cooler and then back to the filter. You should be able to place the new thermoplate either place - at the engine or at the filter adapter. For heat transfer purposes, you want the hottest oil going to the cooler (higher delta T = greater heat transfer).

Right but what I am wondering is I have 2 lines coming out from my relocation plate right. Oil is only going to flow in one direction around this circuit. If I had 2 lines running from my relocation plate to my oil filter then sure I would agree that it could be put anywhere.
I must be missing something, lol.

Oil comes out of engine, into reloc plate, then on to the filter. From there the oil goes through the cooler and back to the reloc late. Did I get that right? What I would suggest is stacking the thermoplate and reloc plate at the engine. Run the cooler lines to the thermoplate. Run the lines coming out of the reloc plate to the remote plate (just as if there was no cooler). Or you could stack the thermo to the remote plate. Either way, you'll have to repipe the cooler.

Jason, how cold is it when you can't get over 70? Are you running a thermostat?

Lately it's been 10°c at night on the way to work. At 14°c (last night for example) my car will stay at 73°c (highway driving)
I do not have a thermostatic plate.

LOL @ Synolimit.
You could just add an in line thermostat from Mocal that opens at 180*F.. or for my friends in it would be around 83

Been thinking about doing the same thing. But then I would be worried about it getting to hot if I am driving the car hard. Without IC's in front of it it would be a pain in the *** to install and then remove each time.
