Not sure what "synthetic media" has to do with better filtration when using synthetic oil. Sounds like they are just trying to play a gimmick to me... Synthetic media must be better because the oil is synthetic. I don't buy it. If it weren't for that I might consider it. But they didn't even bother explaining why.

See how a little marketing gets people to buy something that they know little about? I agree. More of a gimmick than anything. For any filter, it all depends on the mesh size of the filter media and the debris couldn't care less if its synthetic or not.

After speaking with techs at both Advance and AutoZone, the information I have on these is:

It is exactly the same technology in the full synthetic (Blue) filters as the PurolatorONE (Yellow) filters. There is no difference on the internals. Same product repackaged to sell 2x as many. And apparently since people are wise to this, that line of filters has since been discontinued according to them. So you won't find many of them anymore in stores. Best bet to get them is Amazon.

I use the PurolatorONE myself, #14612. And have had zero complaints. Also using Redline oil as well.

No offense, but I wouldn't trust their word. All the information they get is about 25 generations old and is mostly rumors. It could be true, but I prefer fact rather than conjecture.

I did search around a bit to see if anyone on Bob's had cut one open but didn't come across anything. May dig more later.

They're not incredibly trusted, but in this extremely rural area, there aren't a lot of options to go to for information. And everything aside from that I found was advertising, and you can never believe that wholeheartedly.

I'm with ya! Always out looking for the new and better thing for my car. But when I read the "synthetic media" line I lost all hope for mankind.
