Default Flywheel Chatter?

I want to run this buy you guys with lightened flywheels, I know they are a bit louder and everything but I dont think this is what I am feeling.

At slower speeds 0-40mph or so and usually while coasting it sounds like something making a ting sound on the exhaust (the only way I can describe it) I can feel it on my feet and feels like its coming from right around my feet. It almost feels like a suspension spring popping in and out of its socket if that makes sense. It is fairly loud from outside the car and it seems related to bumps in the road which makes me think its suspension related.

I pulled off all 4 tires and went through it all and everything seems tight, which makes me think it may be the flywheel. What I would say it feels like is a loose caliper rattling around on the disk (again checked all 4). The only thing I did not check was the front swaybar because of the splash shield. I guess its possible that a loose sway bar clamp could cause this.

Anyone ever have a similar issue?

Thanks in advance

Mitch

Ill also say that I only really started to notice it after the flywheel change. And it only seems to happen like I said during coasting which I guess could be the springs in the clutch shuddering slightly and making the noise?

What flywheel did you buy? The 14lb or the 24lb? Southbend right?

24 and yes Southbend. I hear the chatter right down low, but this is usually at aroung 2-4k rpm. Its in getting a alignment right now and I told them to look for anything that could make the noise. Could just be the sound of the springs hitting themselves when they compress (even though I replaced the wrap on them to keep them from doing this.

I have the same flywheel and don't notice any chatter. Sorry, that doesn't help.

Yeah I doubt its the flywheel anyways but thanks! The more I think about it the more it feels like one of the swaybar clamps on the front might be lose (unlikely tho as I remember putting the clamps on, but crazier things have happened). Ill pull off the splash guard and take a look if the alignment shop sees nothing out of the ordinary.

Maybe check your intercooler piping to see if it has moved and is rattling against something. It may have moved when you had the turbo out during the clutch install. I know the pipe coming right off the turbo is close to the motor mount and the oil takeoff plate.

The alignment shop found it. It was a loose tie rod end (I installed adjustable ones) so they just tightened it up. I guess pulling that weight off the engine was enough to make it noticeable? lol who knows. Good to go now tho! Thanks for help Jason! I am now not going to touch it again till after the dyno. Once that's done then a new Clutch Master cylinder is getting put in, its sitting on my table as a ornament right now.

Good to hear. Glad it wasn't your clutch.

I have a CMC sitting on my bench in the garage. I was told they need to be bench bled before installation. Joe from Z-Speed probably told you that already.

While we are on the topic (kind of), post-install do you guys feel like the flywheels are worth it?

With this setup on our car gravity feeding should be sufficient to get most of the air out. That being said I did bench bleed on the final try with this master cylinder I have in there now. You just make more of a mess because the cylinder will want to dump out all fluid down the car. If you have the caps that come with the purchase of a MC you can probably get around this. Unfortunately I did not that time.

Its easy enough to do tho.

I dont think I would go any lower than 24lbs to be honest with you. Sure the car will sound cooler and rev way faster, but it will also be very touchy off the line, especially with a grippy drag clutch. I am happy with my current setup.
