Default Steering Lock and New Tranny

Well,
I noticed a continuous grind going into 5th gear that started over the weekend as soon I pulled my car out of storage. I admitted did a lot of spirited driving, and may have went a little hard into a 5th gear shift. Nonetheless, my issue was easily replicable and I can grind 5th gear without the car even moving haha. I consequently got my warranty work done on my Steering Lock while I was in there. I had 12,XXX miles on the car and this is the first issue period that I've had. I also live in Central Ohio and took my car to Buckeye Nissan. They didn't even hesitate to order the new transmission. Not even a test drive required So prior to seeing how their work turns out, I'm very pleased with not having to hassle or wait or anything with those guys! Well recommended for anyone in Ohio. I've gotta wait a couple days for a new tranny out of Chicago, and 1 day for reinstallation, and my baby should be back on pavement Friday!! Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. Any questions, lemme know and I'll go further in depth with my issue. Thanks

Congrats on getting it resolved quickly (hopefully)! I'm interested to know if the trans you are getting is brand new or rebuilt. I'm sure this will happen to me eventually

Thats a good point.. I need to call the dealership today anyway because I'm curious as to exactly what a "New Transmission" entails. Meaning do I get a new clutch, flywheel, CSC and Master Cylinder??? I'd like to know that because if I have a chance to catch free labor, I might as well upgrade my CSC since thats destined to fail soon.. They did tell me that my tranny would be shipping out of Chicago, I'm not sure if there's a big rebuild factory there or what. Could just be a warehousing hub. Anyway, I'll call the dealer and find out what I can. Thanks a ton Mandingo.. lol makes me laugh to say that name

Just got off the phone with the dealer. They're only replacing the Transmission and case, so no clutch/flywheel/CSC/Master Cylinder. The unit they will be putting in is brand new.. Which I feel indifferent about.. I mean it's great that I get a brand new tranny, but at the same time the fact that Nissan is giving away new units means that they aren't fixing the issue at hand. That being said, I assume I'll be having the same problem on down the road Anyway, they will be looking at my CSC while the drivetrain is split to see if the seals are going back or if any of the plastic is cracked.. Just keepin ya posted

I don't recall this with 100% certainty, but doesn't the new trans comes with a new CSC already attached? Also, I recall reading in the service manual for the G's (imagine it's the same for the 370), that the CSC should be replaced if removed, and not reused. I'll check the service manual later when I'm home and confirm.

Ahh yes you're right... I do remember reading that.. Good call I think that gets ruined in the disassembly

AUTION:
• Never reuse CSC (Concentric Slave Cylinder) body and CSC tube. Because CSC slides back to the
original position every time when removing transmission assembly. At this timing, dust on the sliding parts may damage a seal of CSC and may cause clutch fluid leakage. Refer to CL-17, "Removal
and Installation".
