Clutch chatter, will it get louder?

Ok anyways i have about 500 miles on my car, it is new. got it with about 20 or so miles on the odo.

So after researching all threads here, i notice most people deem this chattering noise while babying the clutch in first gear is normal. very noticeable when moving slow in first and reverse.

My question is does this noise get louder over time? it is already embarrassing as it is.

I came from an evo and sti and none of those cars had any transmissions/clutch issues. Those cars clutches were smooth and had no problems.

The Z on the other hand is new and its already noisy, i can bare with it, but its damn sad when my friends are like what the hell is that noise?

Also i can sometimes hear this rattle after i turn off the car. the rattle goes on after the car shuts off for like 2 secs.

Granted I've only had my car for 3 weeks and 200 miles the chatter doesn't seem too bad to me. I don't think that it'd get any worse than what you are experiencing now. I'm coming from Evo's/STi's as well and yes you are correct there was no noise from the clutch but the Z doesn't bother me whatsover. It's a totally different animal and I'm loving it . I don't have any rattle upon turning off the car so I'm really not sure what you speak of there. Maybe a video would be helpful?

Our cars have a pretty sharp engagement.. the modified clutch helper spring will reduce some of it, the rest will come from really learning how to drive it. This is not an insult, I have owned other manual cars and there was a learning curve with the chatter/engagement of this clutch.

Yeah.. ive been driving stick for years now.

And my foot has never caused chatter in any other car lol...

I'd put money down that its more NISSAN than me. When majority of people are having the same symptoms im willing to bet its more than just the driver.

Regardless, i love the car, just wasn't expecting to have a VEHICLE that tells me how to drive it.

It is flywheel/transmission chatter, not caused by the clutch. The dual mass (2-piece) flywheel is part of the issue.
My '12 STi also has drivetrain noise, but it's mainly upon decelleration and also not the clutch itself.

Just tell your concerned friends that it's due to the high performance nature of the car.

It's driver's error, happens to me
Give it a little more gas and let out the clutch slower.
As for the rattling when you turn off the car... that's probably normal.

The noise has not become louder over time on my 2009 Z. Initially, it was concerning enough to ask Nissan about this...they said the noise was normal and was also present in the 350's. The noise is worse if I engage the clutch quickly in first gear, almost sounds like a clunk. The rattling is also noticeable on my vehicle when shutting it down. Makes me a little sick to my stomach that the beloved Z makes these noises and Nissan calls it normal (when compared to another Z on the lot).

I hope you see that I am saying it is Nissan and not you. I am simply stating that you will learn how to drive these cars to avoid that chatter.

This shouldn't be surprising... I've never owned two cars that have driven the same. Nothing bad will happen with the chatter (that has been documented) but if you want to avoid the noise, you need to modify your driving style a bit.

Wanted to bump this be I have a similar issue...

When my car is hot (driven for about an hour and temp gauge around 220) I'll get a rattle when I start releasing the clutch and giving gas in 1st when starting from a stop. I don't notice this when the car is cold. What's the noise and why does it only happen after the car is hot? Is it the tranny or the clutch?

Car drives great otherwise. 3k miles on the new tranny and 17k on the original clutch and flywheel

Edit: When I engage 1st with higher rpm like 1200-1500, there's no noise, but anything lower when the car is really hot and I'll get the noise

Tranny fluid is thinner when the car is hot. Nothing to worry about.

I thought that but you would think that the tranny fluid heats up to the same temp after 30 min of driving than it would after an hour. But for some reason I really only hear it after an hour of hard rpm driving when the temp gauge reaches the 220+ mark (as opposed to half an hour of relaxed driving where temps barely exceed 180-190)

That is a bit weird...something similar happens with mine too and it's directly related to how hot the car gets. I don't think it's a simple case of how hot the tranny fluid gets either. I would think after 30 minutes of driving and an hour of hard driving the fluid would get about equally as hot and have little noise dampening effect...

Is there anything internally within the transmission that would make this noise, the hotter the car gets, or could it be the clutch or flywheel?

Could it be a loose input shaft bearing or anything like that? Any tests to see ifs an internal tranny issue or a clutch flywheel issue?

Any tell tale signs to tell if it's an internal issue within the gearbox? I would think if something were messed up inside the tranny, then the rattle would be there all the time and not just when the car is hot after being driven hard for a while.

Guys, it's normal. It's a noisy tranny. When it's not hot, the fluid is thick enough to dampen the noise somewhat. When it gets good and hot, it thins out and the noise seems much louder.

If it's a major concern, drop the fluid and see if there's a lot of metal on the drain plug. If not, fill it back up with redline mt85 and go on with your life.
