New to Forum and need help with Diff issue
Hello all, capt_yanx here writing to you from Panama City, Panama. I'm in a bit of trouble with my 370Z and was hoping I could get some answers/guidance.
I recently bought my Z from an auction house in the US and had the car shipped down to Panama. The car, coming from an auction house, was a little banged up on the sides and rear, but it was definitely repairable. Upon arrival, it turns out he car DID NOT HAVE the Diff on it!!!Now I'm stuck trying to get a diff for it, but have no clue about which one my model would use. It's a 2009 BASE 6M ... any ideas? -Lost in Paradise |

Check out z1 motorsports. They have the quaife diff.
Quaife Differential Much better than the stock VLSD, but not cheap. You could install the sports package oem VLSD, but I think the stubs will need to be replaced, not sure.

if the entire case is missing you might have to grab a 350z manual differential and change the gears and stub shafts as nissan doesn't sell the case. that or find a 370z or g37 manual rear end. it wont matter whether or not it's sport package as they are the same except for the LSD. so basically any manual rear end (stub shafts and gears are needed if its off a 350 because the number of teeth is different for the abs and the gear ratio is different) and the sensors and vent tube + any mounts or bolts you may be missing

I say grab a 350z pumpkin (diff casing) that includes the 350z ring/pinion and then grab yourself the Nismo Differential Cover. Make sure you get a pumpkin from at least a Track edition so that it has the Viscous LSD in it.
That's my 2c.

yeah but the stub shafts on a 350 have the wrong number of teeth and the gears would have to be changed anyway because the 350z has a lower gear ratio like the automatic. so even if he gets a complete 350 rear diff the guts have to go

Not sure if you see my signature but I drive on a 350 diff. I love it compared to the OEM 370 3.69 diff.
The swap was pretty easy for my mechanic friend who got my diff in his 350 and buying a 350 diff and swapping guts would be cheaper I bet than buying a 370 diff if you could find one used. Either way I'm curious if the OP has resolved his issue and how he went about it.

If you got deep pockets, this is what I would order up: 1) A EURO spec differential housing (pumpkin): 38301-EH53E (this rear diff has fins in the cast iron bottom, never seen this on any other R200V before) $1,800+ 2) Rear diff breather (this has to be pressed in): 38356-JL00A $5+ 3) Nismo rear diff AL finned rear cover 38351-350DK $125+ 4) Silicone vac hose 6mm for the diff breather ~ 1.5ft $7+ 5) OSG Super Lock LSD: D-NB102061405-S $1,400+ 6) An additional LEFT flange for the OSG LSD: 38220-JK01B $140 7) Sensors, anti-skid rear (if needed?): L = 47901-1BB1A; R = 47900-1BB1A $180ea 8) Nissan Frontier final drive gear $500+ (3.916 = 38100-0B66A; 4.083 = 38100-0C760; 4.363 = 38100-0C860) 9) Diff assembly by professional trans/rear end shop $300+ 10) SPL rear differential bushings $165+ After this is all assembled and installed your looking at a bill over $$$five large$$$. Considering that I know OS Giken makes different diffs for AT and MT I would say they are different. That's about all I know.
