Periodic Ticking Noise
My car is a 14 Nismo with no mods other then a cat back from fast inten. It has 22k miles on it. This year I just started to notice a ticking noise when at idle waiting for a light. It has been driving me crazy cause it comes and goes at random. I have taken it to a shop and asked the lead to look for exhaust leaks or if he can tell if its a lifter that is going bad. The lead said no leaks were found and for the lifters he does not think thats the noise. The tick goes away when applying the throttle. After applying the throttle and the engine goes back to idle after a few seconds the tick will sometimes return. The loudness of the tick varies aswell. Sometimes is extremely faint and sometimes its very apparent and easy to hear. I thought it could be oil and have done oil changes of 5w-30 with it. Have always used Penzoil Plat but when I noiticed the tick i switched to stupid ester oil from nissan just to see if that would help. Nope stupid ester oil. Anyways I cant figure it out and not sure if anyone here has a idea of what it might be. If the noise was normal then it would be constant and I prob would not worry but since it comes and goes thats whats driving me crazy.

Look for something loose: Heat shields. Look at serpentine Belt system. Make sure all is normal. With 22k miles, it's hard to say, but you never know.

Some are thinking the oil pump or a purge valve. Others are saying its normal. I have no clue where to start. I might check the pressure when at idle and see what it reads. If thats good then no clue.

Is the ticking coming from the area of the back of the passenger side cylinder head? Try taking a video. If it is, this is more than likely the purge control valve. It can be louder if you're car is running in a garage or if the passenger side is a long a wall.
