Default Oil pick up tube replacement help needed

Unfortunately while jacking my car up it slipped off the subframe jacking point and onto my oil pan. The oil pan and oil pick up tube was damaged and I have ordered replacement parts. My question is, when fitting the oil pick up tube should I use RTV sealant on the mating surface or does it just bolt as is direct to the oil pump. Appreciate any advice. Thanks 👍

Don’t use anything. Both surfaces should be clean before installing the pickup tube.

Did you jack up the car by the lower oil pan by mistake? It's okay, you can tell us.

You know, I was wondering about this. (not directly at OP)

I see a lot of people jacking on the oil pan to lift engine for Engine mount replacement.

Not sure if a 1x2 or such wood pieces really distribute force that much. (but videos show it's fine)

I understand using just the jack pad alone is not a good idea or would I ever attempt.

So is that a safe statement regarding pushing up on oil pan? ( to lift engine only, not entire car)

Ha ha, I'm not that retarded, although it was my fault. What happened was, if I jack the car up using the the pinch weld on the sill ,I place a flat piece of steel with a rubber coating on the cup of the jack(it's actually the rear hatch weight) so has not to damage the underside of the car. Unfortunately when I started jacking the front of the car up via the metal dome on the front subframe I forgot to remove the said flat piece of steel from the jack cup. Jacked the car up pretty high and was turning around to reach the axle stands when it slid off the subframe jacking point and onto the sump.
Here in Australia the oil pan/sump is on 8 week back order from Nissan so I've ordered one from z1 motorsports which was here in Australia in 5 days (great fed ex service) but as it's Easter it won't be delivered till Tuesday now.
It's all Nissan's fault anyway as the reason I was jacking it up was to fit all the necessary adapter's to my oil pressure sensor port for my oil pressure gauge. If Nissan had either fitted an oil pressure gauge instead of a shitty looking clock or fitted decent oil gallery gaskets and bolts that don't fall out then I wouldn't have been under the car in the first place, so f**K you Nissan it's your fault 😁

slightly on topic but you wouldnt believe how many people attempt jacking their car from the fuel tank. Seen tons of customer cars with the damage and having bought 7-8 used fuel tanks for R&D, half of them are smashed in from jacks also.

Nothing surprises me nowadays, people are definitely getting stupider. Once upon a time my brother tried removing his fuel tank but forgot to empty it first so when he removed the last bolt ut came down on his chest trapping him under the car, he managed to wriggle it off his chest so he could breathe and reach his phone to call me to come help him, oh how I laughed 😂

That sucks OP. Glad it was an easy fix.

As some of you stated earlier, having worked on many a car as a tech for a living I have seen some crazy sh!t. People never cease to amaze me and I wonder how they have made it through life this far.

I've seen roach infested cars that people drove in, garbage packed cars, etc.

That's not bad. I dropped a Boeing 767 on the WHEEL/BOGEY jack. Crushed the skid plate underneath. I still remember the sound.

I was young, full of piss and Vinegar, low lighting, and tired on night shift. Amazing what the mind will do with a little help.

You can jack up the engine by the oil pan. I've done it plenty of times during my line of work.

For example when reinstalling the front cover on a 2016 Ford Fusion with the 2.0 inline 4 banger, I put a block of wood where I want to jack the engine up. I remove the engine mount once I have the jack just touch the oil pan. You always want to put wood on the floor jack lifting pad and put the floor jack under the oil pan at the front of the engine where it makes an L shape with the block.

With my two post lift I can't really get the correct angle on the rear pinch weld so it ends up lifting it by the tank, been doing it for years now without issue lol.
