Default Rubbing/whining type of noise at highway speeds

Hey all,

I’ve been hearing this weird rubbing/whining/high pitched type of noise in the front of my car when going at highway speeds (55+mph). It gets louder the faster I go and goes away when slowing down. I think a decent way to describe the noise I’m hearing is a treadmill at a high speed. I’ve taken off both front tires to see if anything was rubbing or out of place and found nothing. I’ve also put the car into neutral at the speeds I hear it at and I still hear it when im coasting and with the clutched pressed in. My last guess would possibly be tire noise? Not too sure but would anyone by any chance have an idea of what it could be? Hope this makes sense!

Check your hubs, driveshaft and CV axles.

if it's tire noise, check alignment and pressure. uneven wear will be an early sign

Are we sure you're not talking about the ECU whine? These cars have a specific whine which occurs at higher speeds/rpms. You'll recognize it as it immediately goes away if you let go off the gas, but returns just as you press the throttle again.

Since you said you can only hear the noise while driving it sounds like you could have a wheel bearing going out.

Put the car on jack stands and have someone listen to each corner and diff and spin everything tire by hand. That's what I'd do.
