Default Limp mode or something else?

I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. I am not sure if this is "limp mode" or something else. When I read on this forum about members' cars in limp mode it seems like they cannot get the car over 3000 RPMs. I am experiencing something a little different. When my car freaks out, I can still run through the entire RPM range with no issues however it feels like I have an extremely weak 4-cylinder under the hood. Also, I do not get any check engine lights and the idle RPMs will jump to 1500. If I turn off the car, wait about 15 seconds and start it again, the issue goes away. My tuner stated it could be transmission storing a code and suggested I have the transmission scanned, I plan to do this no matter what however this, what I call, limp mode only happens with his tune and it is not consistent when it happens. If I install the Stillen tune back in the car, this issue does not occur at all.

Has anyone else seen this? I do have the 7AT trans in this car.

Yes, I had something similar. I replaced both throttle bodies and fixed the issue.

So first get the code data so you know what information is there but second the part that should be a sign is you say it doesn’t happen on the old tune and only his. Whenever I diagnosed cars if something doesn’t happen with one part (in this case tune) and does with another then that would lead me to the direction of the problem part. If engine, TB’s, supercharger are all the same yet works with one and not the other then I’d be very hesitant to replace hard parts that are working perfectly fine in one scenario vs another.

Myself I am convinced that it has something to do with the tune but since I have stored or pending codes, I will have to get the tranny scanned at least to be sure there is nothing stored there. If nothing is stored in the tranny then I can go the tuner with that and say that the tune is the issue. I would imagine if I had a TB or some other engine component issue that I would get a CEL.

He got some great horsepower and torque out of this car; he gave me two maps, one for the cooler weather and one for the hot weather and also gave me two-step. However, I noticed that my 7AT never liked his tunes and this could be where the problem lies. After I got tuned, a few days late, I noticed that going from 3rd to 4th would always slip (rev high) when leaving 3rd and going into 4th; the only time it did not is when I was hard on the gas. He made adjustments and I had the tranny fluid changed (was due anyway 35k) and it kept doing the same thing, go back to Stillen and no more. The last tune I got from him the car did not slip anymore but shifts are really strong but I still ended up going into this limp mode about a month after downloading the tune. I am sure this is the connection, I just don't know why the tranny does not like his tune and the Stillen tune shifts fine.
