Default stub axle on Z1 website

Hi all. I really need some help here and would really appreciate it...

I bought wavetrac diff from Z1. Their website says my vlsd needs a right side stub axle replacement so they actually sent me part 38220-1NC1A/JK01A.

the Z1 instructions:
https://www.z1motorsports.com/differ...sd-p-9675.html

what the axle looks like:
https://cdn.z1motorsports.com/imageG...etailsHalf.jpg

On the other hand wavetrac official website says
"370Z with OEM viscous LSD must replace RH axle flange with Nissan #38220-JK01B (1 req) to install Wavetrac."

source:
WavetracŪ Differentials - Application List

I went to mechanic and he said the 38220-1NC1A/JK01A is too long so I suspect Z1 has printed the wrong info and sent me the wrong part? Has anyone got this issue and whether I need to return this axle and get 38220-JK01B instead?

I have uploaded screenshot highlighting Z1's instructions as well.

Regards

Sounds like Z1 screwed up (not uncommon these days from what I've seen). The VLSD has a shorter axle stub on the driver side and longer one on the passenger side. You'll need two of the shorter stub axles from the driver side for your Wavetrac install.

You need to contact Z1 and make them exchange the longer stub axle they sent for the correct, shorter stub axle. And let them know their website is wrong.

After looking, it doesn't appear that the Z1 website is incorrect. It correctly states "When installing [a Wavetrac diff] on a factory viscous LSD, the passenger (right) side stub axle must be replaced."

It appears that they just sent you the wrong part. It should be replaced with the shorter, driver (left) side stub axle.

is this stub axle an upgrade for the passenger stub axle required for the wavetrac?
if so are the driver and passenger stub axle the same for wavetrac? (should i be buying two of these upgraded stub axles for the wavetrac install?)

The one thing that you have to watch out for. Is your stubs, through bolt or bolt and nut?

That Z1 short stub axle is almost certainly NOT an upgrade over OEM. It is simply a cheaper option vs the OEM short stub axle - although the way Z1 has been going in recent years, I would just shell out the extra $$ for the Nissan part instead.

The Wavetrac install requires a short stub axle on both sides of the diff. If you have the base open diff then you will need to purchase two (2) of the shorter stub axles. If you have the sport VLSD, you already have a short stub axle on the driver side and a longer one on the passenger side meaning you will need to purchase one (1) shorter stub axle to have one on both sides.

Rusty makes a good point. It should be noted that there are two different versions of the stub axle - one with threaded bolt holes and one without threaded bolt holes.
