VQ37 catalytic converter ceramic dust toasting an engine?

Is this a carry-over myth from other Nissan engines? I'm doing some deep dive research into the QX50 before buying one, and am curious if the catalytic converter can actually

Default VQ37 catalytic converter ceramic dust toasting an engine?

Is this a carry-over myth from other Nissan engines? I'm doing some deep dive research into the QX50 before buying one, and am curious if the catalytic converter can actually toast an engine?

Same here. The dust would have to go against the exhaust flow to get to the engine.
I've also never heard of catalyst dust in this context. I thought out catalyst was a solid honeycomb?

While the best made cat can create dust as it ages (vibration, heat-cycling, etc) and there can be flow pulses in parts of the exhaust system, even if it was a lot of dust, the flow through the system would push the dust away from the engine. The pulses are much too small (and usually localized near the valve/manifold) to pull anything from the cat to the heads. But I'm no engineer, so prove me wrong.

I agree. To pull dust from a cat back into the exhaust valve, an engine would be a total pile of **** power and efficiency wise. That said, ive seen it mentioned on multiple forums about the VQ, so, i ask.

I don't know what car it was but I remember some older car having two catalytic converters and one what right on the exhaust manifold. That I could see getting some failed cat material if go back into the engine.
