Default 2010 Nismo Engine Noise.

I made a trip after changing my oil using Motul 5w-30. During somewhat long trips, I always check my oil. Never had any leaks and never had issues with low oil. I was heading home and noticed a slight ticking/tapping noise. When I pulled into my driveway, I immediately rechecked my oil and everything seemed fine besides the now louder sound from the engine when I started it back up (video below). I drained the oil again and dropped my oil pan to be greeted by an inch of galley gasket floating around. I ordered Z1's Oil Gallery Gasket Kit as well as everything else I would think I need to replaced since I have my hands on it. I'm about to order a new engine but I want to know where should I look to see if I can rebuild this motor as well. I have some people saying it's engine knock and I have others saying it's VVEL related. Also only codes pending before tearing it down was P0300 (Random/Multi Cylinder Misfire Detected) and P0461 (Fuel Level Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance). After Putting it back together P0081, P0075, P0113, and P0300 are permanent. Nothing else. My car is tuned on UPREV, CAI, Test Pipes and CBE. Figured I would make a post on here before just decided to swap motors now. Any input would help me narrow down anything else I haven't thought of.

I think you and I have different definitions on what a "slight" ticking/tapping noise might be.

As per the previous commentors, that is definitely not valve train noise. My guess is the same as Spooler's - knocking rod.

How many miles do you have on that engine?
I am just curious.

A buddy of mine is not so sure it's a rod. He thinks it sounds higher up in the engine. How he can tell that from a video, I dunno. But he's a decent mechanic. YMMV

Well, the motor has to come out anyway. Rod, wrist pin, piston slap. It's toast.

I agree that's it's most likely a rod but thought I would offer an alternative hypothesis. He thought it didn't have the heavy ka-thunk of a rod bearing. But he, like myself, is used to working on iron-block V-8s.

LOL, I have heard something very similar on a VG30E in a Nissan truck. Turned out to be a Vbelt lost most of the V. Everytime it went over the crank pulley it sounded just like a rod knock. I had that happen twice. The 2nd time the guy like to have hugged me to death. He though he lost his engine and turned out he just need a set of belts.

Few weeks back at the end of my track day my engine started making noise and it does sound basically identical. What you can do to isolate the problem or at least find out which cylinder has a issue, let it idle and unplug each coil one at the time, if the knock still there, plug it back in and go to the next one until the noise quiets down. Mine has a issue in cylinder #5. I’m in process of setting up my garage with a lift so it will be few more weeks before I tear it down.
