Hi Forum, Trying to grab an engine for a build and i'm noticing that i can easily find a vq37vhr from Infiniti's (i.e G37/Q50). Are they interchangeable with the 370z?

Default Vq37vhr differences Vin A Vin B Infinity 370z

Hi Forum,

Trying to grab an engine for a build and i'm noticing that i can easily find a vq37vhr from Infiniti's (i.e G37/Q50). Are they interchangeable with the 370z? Plan is a build bottom end to pair up with a FI TT set up for my 14' Nismo.

Thanks again!

Same engine. The only difference may be the heads. They changed to Beehive springs at some point and time. Not a big deal unless you are doing JWT C2 cams. Headgaskets sealing issues are going to be a major concern depending on the power you want to make.

Yeah, i remember you commented on another thread about the headgasket issues. I'm shooting for 600-650 whp. 93 octane (we don't have e85 where I'm at). Is there any remedies to help? Specific headgasket and/or specific ARP bolts?

My natural choice for compression would be 9:1, but I'm getting mix info about staying 11:1 for quicker spooling or 10:1 as a middle point between 9 and 11. Any input on this? I will most likely go with Z1Motorsports' Stage 1 or stage 2 rebuild kits... unless anyone has any recommendations.

Much appreciated!

For your power you can stay at 11:1 but that will limit you in the future if you want more power. 10:1 is the lowest I would go. Since you are doing pump gas, 10:1 would be your best choice. The rest is up to you. I would recommend you call Mazworx and talk to Mark. Let them assemble the whole long block.

Oh yeah, don't believe most of the stuff you read on Facebook. Lots of misinformation out there that will cost you a motor.

Ethanol would benefit more with a lower than stock static compression; as leaving room to dump more fuel
You can purchase high quality ethanol from Ignite Race Fuel & have shipped to you by the barrel
Especially when you want to dial up boost
Huge power difference vs 93

I think i will settle with 10:1. I know e85 is the to go choice for more power, but I'm keeping this build with considerations of only having 93 octane here. VP stores do have e85 in barrels, but I'm not going to deal with that b/s.

My old man has 2 vettes that use meth injection and I see his lab for his mixing. No time for that.
