We have someone that posted on here a failure of a driveshaft caused by and an exhaust leak. It was dumping right on the driveshaft and started to melt it before it finally failed.

Wink

Nice detailed pic seeing the material that’s used to make our driveshafts I’m not too surprised. Also driveshafts for our cars are costly for replacement due to epic failure. So far I have seen three people at the track damage/break a driveshaft on different TT set ups. On top of the u joint is obviously a weak area.

Broken driveshafts at the drag strip is not a surprise at all. The drag strip is hard on drivetrain parts.

I've put a 3/4 twist into a 4" diameter steel driveshaft with my Dart. Broken a few u joints, and yokes. Torn all the teeth off of a pinion. Snapped a pinion. Broke a ring gear.

Yes I agree at the strip have your check book ready you will damage/break something eventually. If you do damage your driveshaft on our cars have a reputable transmission or driveline shop custom build you a new driveshaft for your Z. Ironically I never broke any drivetrain related part on my Z knock on wood! I have damaged my u joint before on my 2005 Ford Mustang GT when I had it. Go’s to show our Z’s actually do show quality.

At the power plant. We have some equipment with 10" diameter carbon fiber drive shafts. When those fail, it's like a bomb going off. They take out everything around them. They spin at 3600 rpm, but there is a chit load of torque behind them. What gets them, is being out in the weather. After the first 3 exploded. We started to change them out every 5 years.
