Weird electrical fault
Ok so I just replaced my engine mounts with Z1 mounts and now I have some very strange electrical issue and the car won't start.
It's a 2014 Australian 370z. Most of the electrics won't work. Windows don't work (unable to shut the doors properly because the window is fully up), seats don't work, headlights won't come on, but dash will beep to let me know I have left the lights on. Key fob doesn't do anything. Brake lights work. Battery is only 6 months old and tests fine. I have tried bashing the steering lock and have removed it and pressed down on the switch manually. Nothing, won't start. I have visually inspected all the fuses in all 3 fuse boxes and they all look fine. Any idea what I can try next? |

Test the fuses with a multimeter.

Too much going on to be a fuse but wouldn't hurt anything.
I'd start checking ground cables. Something either got unhooked or pinched/cut when the motor mounts were put in. Grab your jumper cables. Just use 1 of them to ground the engine to the battery and see what happens. If the power comes back on with that you know for certain a ground came undone somewhere |

^^ This ^^. Visually checking fuses doesn't always work. Put a meter on them to be sure.

I'd check the fuses/fusible links first because it's easier and there's a chance that it's the problem. IIRC, there is at least one fusible link at the battery. Grab a copy of the FSM (link in my sig). It will have fusible link locations, trouble-shooting procedures, wiring diagrams, etc.

So I tried grounding from the engine and from the chassis, no luck there. But I have found something interesting (picture attached).
I don't think it's supposed to look like that. Is this repairable? I can't find a part number for this. Last edited by Maestro666; 10-11-2020 at 07:25 PM. |

Thanks everyone for your contribution. I just ******* love this forum and how its saved me $$$$ in car repair costs.
I soldered the connection back together and everything came back online and car started. I'll order a replacement part from a wrecker or something. And that, kids, is why you always disconnect the battery when working on your car. I must have shorted something when poking around with the wrenches. |
