VDC turned off by default?
Is there any way to program the ecu (or any way for that matter) to make the car start up with the VDC turned off by default? I have asked a few tuners and they shook their heads and said not that they know of, but I thought I would ask here. I find myself turning it off more and more and would love to just turn it on when driving in the rain or other conditions. It is really annoying to think I have it off and start into the drift course or do some digs and find myself bogging when the wheels slip and I want them to.

As the traction control button doesn’t completely turn the system off; most folks who a prone to racing,drifting,burnouts,etc.....put an on/off switch on the yaw sensor
Be sure that you have a good LSD, as if you then start loosing control....the power doesn’t cut & you could look like a Moosestang.

For my own information, are you talking about 2 different things here? On my car, I can turn off the traction control but I don't see a way to turn off VDC. What am I missing here?

Yep, 2 different things. As pushing the button turns off traction control & not the VDC (vehicle dynamic control) as this will cut throttle & apply brakes to necessary wheels & straighten out vehicle, in the event it senses out of control
The Yaw Sensor is the brain for this & will illuminate 2 solid slip lines on dash when it’s turned off & not the faded slip lines.

There’s a couple DIY threads on it, but be careful driving...unless you’re experienced with drifting,etc...

I like to think of the entire configuration of multiple systems (VDC, ABLS, Yaw sensor, etc) as the traction control. To turn off traction control (i.e. everything) you have to wire up a yaw switch like you mentioned. The button turns off VDC independently, leaving other systems like ABLS still operational. The dash lights are an easy way to identify which traction control systems are on/off.

If I leave my yaw sensor switch in the off position the car will turn on every time with both VDC and traction control off just as the OP wants.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Let me start searching for these mentioned threads on how to do this yaw switch. Mine is a base model so I only have the VDC off button. I am slowly turning this into a drift car, currently waiting on GKTech to release the 370 angle kit as the 350 kit will not fit and I am not going to street a car with the high end angle kits ($2000-4000) and wear that thing out. But yes, I have the OS Giken 1.5 way diff in there already. We had a great drift event this weekend but too many times I lost in a big sweeper and spun out, only to have the engine stall from g-force starvation. Then start it back up, jump in the pack and ****....cant drift, car grips and turns back...arggg. Desperately need to find this and add that switch.

Here's the threads I followed for the YAW sensor. For drifting. You NEED the mod.

Sport Touring here and only have a VDC switch. Owners need to install the Yaw switch and leave it in the off position if you want neither on upon startup.
