Default 2nd gear high rev grind

Hows it going everyone! Ive had my 2016 Nismo 6 speed for about 3 months now. Bought it with 4600 miles now has 5600.

I've noticed from 1st to 2nd gear pulls, 1st grinds into 2nd gear. This isn't my first rodeo with manual cars. I've taken it to Nissan since it is still under power train warranty.

Service tech had test drove and i also took him for a drive. He explained to me since its not "broke" it would be useless to open a claim with Nissan since they will say that its still working. Ok i understand but this shouldn't be grinding with this amount of miles. I don't want to say previous owner babied it but it still has the original tires from 2016 with lots of threads left.

Anyone experience this or is experiencing?

I have issues with it grinding from 5th to 6th. If I power through the gears hard and fast, it grinds. If I power through them up to 5th, then press the clutch, wait a second and then shift, It won't grind. The synchro is going and will progressively get worse over time. You may be having the same issue. I'm past warranty, therefore it's actually cheaper to replace the entire trans rather then open it and repair it.

Base model or sport model with SRM?

If you have SRM, use it to 'learn' how the car wants to be driven. Then turn it off and try to mimic those same shifts.
If you don't have SRM, try slowing down your shifts at lower RPM gear changes. If driving hard and fast, the Z likes quicker gear changes. Try different things and you'll quickly feel what she likes

For the record, 1st and 2nd gear shifts in the Z34 aren't like other MT cars. But you can make it smooth with some practice and patience.

My 2016 Nismo has been like this from new. The 6-speed tranny in our cars was designed for fast/smooth shifting at high speed in the upper RPM ranges. The downside of this is when driving slow and shifting at low RPMs you may get slight grinding or rough engagement. You need to slow down your shift speed to allow the synchros to engage. This is especially critical with the 1st to 2nd shift for some reason.

Rule of thumb: Drive fast, shift fast. Drive slow, shift slow.

Every other gears are fine. But slamming 2nd at high rpms grind. Also when slowly downshifting onto 2nd while stopping has this bump going in and its kinda stiff.

No........our gearbox came from a truck. So you shift it like a truck.

Has happened twice on hard pulls.

Like others said, the 1-2 isn't just....not it. Generally speaking I just accepted we could only go so fast with that shift, high or low RPM's.

My down shift from 2nd to 1st has to be slow with force. No matter what the speed. It's notchy. The downshift from 6th to 5th has to be slow. Otherwise, I will get a grind.
