HFC + Muffler Delete - just need some wisdom
Hey I'm back - 2016 370z Nismo
I'm looking at getting some HFCs and removing the muffler - from what I know the nismo exhaust is actually quite good for the car - correct? Or am I completely wrong? I'm talking performance not sound... looking for torque over hp I can't decide between F.I. HFCs or Berk - or anyone have another suggestion? and then for muffler delete - short tail - does it matter? My plan is to go HFC - muffle delete - headers - maybe a manifold... oh and then of course a tune (already have the z1 CAI) I don't want too loud of sound - or a drone in the cab. I've searched on google / youtube to hear different sounds of 370z... I'm just looking for some wisdom from all of you vets PS - Is a muffler delete even needed or is it strictly for sound? Thanks again! Edit: Oh and I have searched the forums and looked at a bunch of old threads.. just kinda looking for some up-to-date info - if that exists.. Yes change your plans it will be very loud. There are some catback exhausts you could go with that are not too loud. Don’t do a muffler delete or headers if that is what you are looking for. If you install HFC’s I would install the AAM Competition HFC’s since they lasted the longest in my experience. Definitely try to find some other people with Z’s and hear their exhaust in person or check out YouTube and hear some sound clips it should help you find the exhaust you like. Look at different brand catback exhausts.

Also doing a muffler delete won't help with performance? |

I have the Stillen long tube intakes, FI LTH's, 12 resonators, and cbe, match ported intakes, plus tune. My Z makes 334HP, it is a bit loud, and has some drone about around 2,500 rpm's. A good cbe will make the same hp as a muffler delete.

If you change anything in your exhaust it will be louder. If you install a muffler delete your Z will be louder and have more volume as well. You can pick up some power by installing an exhaust but you have to make the sacrifice that your exhaust note will change. I have seen people get any where between 5-8 whp on the dyno from a muffler delete it depends. I think the best muffler delete for our cars is the AAM Competition short tail exhaust (muffler delete).

That being said I was looking for a bit more power without sounding like a hot boi around my town so I converted to ISR Resonated Test Pipes along with my AAM comp and it sounds beautiful and allows for that much more airflow. If you don't mind loud occasionally it's a great combo to have. I melted my HFCs due to use and constant driving conditions so it was a no brainer for me to move to Res TP.

With your concern of volume and drone, I'd recommend spending the extra on a set of resonated HFC.
