Replace Motor Goat Rodeo
It's a long story I will keep short. Bought a 2009 370 base w/sport 29,500 miles about a year ago from a dealer. Car had clean full oil, 2500 miles later car runs low on oil goes into limp mode throws a code that says replace cam angle sensor. Dealer changes oil(what was left) filter ect. I replaced The cam angle sensor reset code but code comes back after a short time. Car goes into limp mode sometimes but if the motor is warmed up then shut down for about 10 seconds when restarted the car run awesome sometimes for the whole day some times for for a short period. Took the car to the Niissan dealer told them the story they looked into said the oil was low and I needed a new engine. Got a second opinion at another Nissan dealer. We all knew about the 2009 oil consumption problems. Did oil consumption test for 2500 miles.... No oil loss??? So confused. They go thru the electrical stuff and determine that I have bad Timing Chains. $7000.00. I think it would be a better choice to replace with a used motor at about $6000.00. Please one of you guru's tell me that they are all full of **** and it a bad vacuum tube or something. There alot I left out here but this is such a goat rodeo it hard to write all down. HELP PLEASE.

If I had to guess it would be the galley gaskets are bad and leaking oil. This is what feeds the VTC's on the intake cams on the front of the motor. You need a Z specialist in your area to confirm. Oil pressure at idle is the giveaway. Will need an oil pressure gauge installed to see for sure.

Replace PCV as they maybe blocked and causing your oil consumption but I also agree that your timing chain oil galley gaskets could be the reason for the engine fault code, however they usually just cause the oil to leak straight back down into the sump so shouldn’t result in your oil loss.

If you are only going off of the CEL then it only will tell you that there is no oil pressure being sensed by the sensor, this could mean two things: 1. You actually had low oil in the engine and the sensor gave feedback of no pressure 2. The oil galley gaskets have failed and are causing the "low oil" CEL I suspect that if you have not burned any oil in a period of driving then I would lean more towards the oil galley gaskets. |
