Default Whining Noise - Video inside

Hey guys

Ever since I had my 2014 Z I have had a low pitched whine noise from the 1st 4 gears when crusing around. I thought this was normal but I'm not so sure.

Car has covered 27000 miles

I dont notice this in 5th and 6th gear

My clutch release bearing is slightly noisy when the car is in neutral and idling

If I rev the car in neutral you can hear the whine slightly , it is a lot louder than this when the car is moving , tends to be between 2000 - 3500rpm

When I put my foot on the clutch when car stationary and rev the car the noise is gone

Anyone any idea what this may be ?

Any advice appreciated , its been driving me crazy

I dont think its ECU whine

In the video at the start you can hear the clutch release bearing as I operate the clutch

Does it get louder the longer you drive?

Well. I have 1,300 miles on mine and I have something similar.

Apparently it’s normal. I know. I’m OCD too.

No doesnt get louder its there all the time

Sort of rules out the transmission as I get it when stationary ?

I did wonder if the release bearing could cause this but I'm not so sure

It drives you crazy when you hit a certain rev band when driving , noise is about 4 times louder than the video when stationary

found another video that sounds like mine

any ideas anyone ?

Noise change at all when turning the steering wheel left/right while stationary in N?

Soooo I have the exact same issue, and i only noticed it after i replaced my clutch & master/slave cylinder because of the dreaded csc failure... maybe it was there before and i never noticed it until now? im not sure. Another video on this

The guy who posted that video said "turns out it was the input shaft. had to get the transmission replaced" ... Not sure if it really ended up being that or not but worth a post
i wish i could contribute more but i'll be following this thread for sure in case you figure it out

Can't speak to if it's normal or not, but my Z definitely has the same low rpm transmission whine to it.

Yep thats the same noise as I have

Seems drastic getting the transmission replaced for input shaft ?

Looks like this noise is present on quite a few cars , surely cannot be right ?

Could do with a survey ! who has the whining noise when stationary and revving the car with the clutch NOT pressed in !

There's a tsb that involves replacing the power steering reservoir. The issue manifests itself as a whining (morning sickness on '90's fwd cars) type noise when turning the wheel. Sounds like a super charger whine.

Kinda sounds like what I have. Weird as mine is 2018. You would think they’d have fixed that by now. SMH.

I'll look into that thanks , although quite confident there is no change to the sound when turning the wheel side to side
