Entire shifter removal-Tranny fluid
I just read 15 pages of DIY MT fluid change and not one person mentioned filling fluid from the shifter hole.
Now, it's maybe because it's impossible or too time consuming but I want to know why and is it even possible. I used to own a D21 Pickup. This was the preferred method as we got the full 4 qts in. I understand the 240SX and classic Z's are approachable this way as well. Not to mention very easy and clean. From looks of things, the shift boot may not come up high enough without removing the knob. If it does, we may get enough access to remove 4 bolts holding down the inner rubber boot and tunnel cover plate. Once we get that far, if all Nissan MT are the same, it's a matter of removing a snap ring and removing entire shifter from transmission. This will reveal the guts of the transmission and a great big hole to pour EXACTLY 3 qts of MT-85. Any experiences? zz Last edited by ZoomZ; 06-30-2018 at 08:49 PM. |

Can't be done. The shifter sits on a bracket. It moves a rod that goes through the tranny housing horizontally. The other trannys you talk about. If you remove the shifter. You can look down into the tranny. You can't do that with the Z tranny.

Now that I see more videos and pictures of the Z tranny, it looks that way. I would have figured it out if I had the parts diagram. Thanks for the enlightenment.
