Default Did I over-rev? Possible damage?

Hi all,

I have a 2014 Nismo and while I never really rev the crap out of the car, I do it occasionally, although never to redline. I was in 2nd and opened the throttle all the way and as soon as it got to redline (7500rpm) it hiccuped and hesitated a little bit and the needle wouldn’t go any further. I backed off right away.

I’m pretty sure this is the over rev feature but now I’m paranoid I did some damage to the engine. Any possibility of this?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the VDC kicking in. Will do that if you redline, but wont if you disable it.

I'm with almost everybody else - you hit the rev-limiter. Shouldn't be a problem.

For your own peace of mind, you may want to see if any DTCs were thrown. You can get a $20-40 OBD/CAN reader at most auto supply stores, Wal-Mart, etc. Many auto supplies will lend/rent a reader; some will even go out to the car and pull the code(s) for you.

Some tuners increase the redline to 7800 or 8k. You’ll be fine at 7500 and I agree with above posters, sounds like VDC kicked in probably because it briefly broke traction or you hit the rev limiter. Turn VDC off, have fun, and drive hard because that’s what the car was meant for.

Sorry but I am a bit confused.....

What did you drive before your 370z?

Your 10+ manual driving experience include a heavily modified 6MT Maxima that ran low 13's and a CBR1000rr. Yet, here you exhibited no knowledge of what a rev limiter is.

I am confused....is this the real NismoNY or someone else posting under his name?

Maybe he has a younger brother who took the keys without asking and got on his computer because he is worried? Or maybe 10+ years of experience doesn't mean that much? I know people with 40 years of MT driving who don't know how to properly shift... not performance driving even.

The power actually starts dropping off around 7200 RPMs I've noticed (and as evidenced by many dyno sheets around). So you will probably notice the hesitation starts before you hit the rev-limiter. But once you hit the rev-limiter it will be very noticeable.

That's what I had in mind, but then it would be rather unwise to post under older brother's account if he's trying to hide it

There is an "up-shift" warning light that should illuminate at the pre-selected RPM. This is set in the vehicle information display. Set this to about 7000 RPM so the light comes on before you hit red line. Check in the operator's manual on how to adjust the limit...

Oh man...

Sorry guys. This went to sh!t real quick. Most of you guessed correctly. I let my younger cousin drive the car with me inside and he made the mistake of thinking that he could borrow it whenever he wants -__-

He was staying with me and my wife While I was traveling for work and he took it for a spin. He asked before hand of course and I trust him. Funny enough he didn’t mention the redline part...

My guess is he got scared and thought he messed something up. I never log out so he came and posted under my username to scope out the situation. But wouldn’t he know that I have access to old posts I made? Haha what a moron.

I’m not too worried about the redline thing as I’ve done it before too. But I am going to have fun with this with him and scare him. Ya know...the Nismo has been driving weird as of this morning...

I’ll keep you posted on what comes of this lol
