Default Lack of Power... MAF Issue?

This has happened multiple times...

Pulled my '13 Z Base Model out of the garage today, drove up the driveway, and my Z was giving me quite a lack of power. I have some ideas on why it's happening, but want to see what your initial thoughts are.

Drop into 1st, start to drive and it isn't pulling even 1/6th of what she can do. RPM's slow to climb. Getting up a hill is very slow. It doesn't matter what RPM I'm at, it seems the comp is holding it back, almost like it's in a "safe mode". After driving for a bit, engine temp's at 160-180. Usually sits at 200-220.

This happens every once in a while... Maybe once a month...

I've taken the z into the local Nissan, but they said it didn't throw any errors when they ran it. They updated the software, but it seems like the problem is coming back.

If anyone has any ideas let me know!

When was the last time you pulled the codes? I would run it and check for myself if any codes were recorded. Seems weird that it would go into a semi limp mode but not post a code.

They pulled them a few months ago and it showed nothing. Guess I'll have to invest in a code reader. But yeah it's very weird. No check engine light or anything.

I am no expert but I was experiencing the same issue last summer, after getting a new battery installed ,the issue never came back.
An old battery caused my problem as the computer relies on it.

This could be caused by a lot of things. First thing I'd do is check for any DTCs. If you don't want to spring for a OBD reader, most auto parts stores will lend/rent you one (my local O'Reilly's will let me read codes in their parking lot if I give them my DL to hold).

If no codes are present, I'd then try resetting the ECM. You can find the Nissan-approved procedure online - most people just disconnect a battery post and step on the brake for a few seconds, then reconnect the battery. The ECM will have to go through a re-learn sequence if you pull the battery cable but should clear up after a few miles.

Cleaning the MAFs is very easy, so it won't hurt to go ahead and do it, even if it's not the problem.

I just had the SAME issue which has been since resolved. Ran a OBD scan and came back with a pending code of MAF. I could stop the car, turn it off, open the door to reset the system and it would return to normal. After doing this about 10 times randomly over 3 months I decided enough was enough.

My fix at the time was to clean the throttle bodies, clean the MAF's, and run through Seafoam through the fuel system just for good measure. The last one here isn't required, I just did it while I was at it. The throttle bodies weren't TERRIBLY dirty but they did have some buildup. Ever since this was performed I haven't had the same issue recur. All of the associated cleaners can be purchased at the parts store for less than $30 total.
