Differences in oil coolers?
I see a wide disparity in terms of prices on the various oil coolers. Being unfamiliar with them I was wondering whether there are any significant differences between say a mishimoto at 500 bucks and a generic 25 row at 170.
I tend towards the best products I can afford, but only when there's real value. |

Mishimoto is cheap Chinese garbage. Buy it from Z1 or Fast Intentions.

I went with the 25 row kit from Z1. Great kit! My oil temps have been much cooler and that is with the added load of a super charger!
Don't go cheap on one of the most critical add-ons for your Z. If the oil leaks out the engine dies a horrible death.

This. Don't cut corners with parts that cause engine failure if they break. Whatever you buy, make sure it has a Setrab or Mocal core.

It's not 400 by the time you get the appropriately sized core and thermostatic sandwich plate adapter. You want the 25 or 34 row. But yes, that's what you need.

Any actual proof that other oil coolers fail? Did a quick web search and only saw failure of OEM coolers. Did a search for a few of the "other" brands and didnt find anything either.
Not talking about a guy your cousin knew. Either first hand or links with photos please |

Only 2 places to get an oil cooler. Z1 or FI.

Build quality basically. Poor brazing, less quality aluminium which will corrode and fall apart, design of the tubes used etc etc.
That said, you cant go wrong with trucool. They are solid sheets of aluminium pressed and joined halves together with a solid end braze. There are no fins to bend or pullout like an accordion, no way to really punchture a tube, only 2 parts vs a normal cooler which is made up of several parts and a ton of brazing...just a rock solid sh*t brick house. Now i dont think they cool as well but good thing is if youre say a track guy and want a 34 row, trucool makes a 48 row that probably has equal cooling. And at $78 you cant beat it. My 48 row on the street is 160-180*, close to 200* if im just sittng in summer heat but just sitting no cooler will help you.
