Engine bay loud(er) after Oilcooler
I installed a Z1 19 row oilcooler.. After idling to temp, no leaks were shown. Went out for a 5 minute drive, short in town drive and smelt burning oil.
Went back home and checked under; saw small leaks at the AN fittings where it attaches to the sandwich plate; so i removed the plate and the AN fittings to tighten up everything a little better. Did anyone else have a hard time screwing in the lines to the sandwich plate? I didnt have much wiggle room to tighten the fittings without screwing up the angle of the plate and line to install. How did you do it? Anyways, after my best try if trying to tighten up everything with a monkey wrench (i didnt have a 25mm/1inch wrench) i checked the oil level and filled to right below the HIGH line of the dipstick. I started it up for 5 minutes to let the oil go back into the lines from it draining and reinstalling. 2 hours later i checked the level and it sat right between the LOW and MIDDLE. I added enough oil to sit a little above the middle line after 30 minutes of adding oil and started it up. The engine bay seems louder now, is it suppose to be louder with an oil cooler? Stupid question, but is it actually louder or are you picking up usual noise and paying more attention to it since you're looking for a problem?

A stupid question is never a stupid question. It seems to 'tick?' Louder than before with the hood up and down. Im going to go for a drive again and see if anymore leaks persists. No leaks were found idling to temp (about a 30 minute idle) I still have the underbody tray removed as it is a PITA to remove the bolts to see if any leakage occurs. Hoping that the undertray is something that deafened the tick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Stick around here for a while. You'll see how wrong you are.

Have you installed one? How did you manage to tighten up the fittings on the sandwich plate? I had a hard time tightening it down.. Do you know what size wrench it is? I was using a monkey/adjustable one and found it hard with the amount of room i had Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Thank you. I hand tightened with my strength for the AN fittings then wrenched it one by one.. I tried to use alot of force; but not enough so that I will strip anything. Wish they had a TQ # for the AN fittings. I TQ the sandwich plate to the desired level per manual.. It was 25 i believe. It was hard to wrench down the second fitting due to space and size of my wrenches as well as me lying down for it lol. Sort of wished i could find a short hose with the AN fittings on both sides so i could have 2-3 inches attached to the sandwich then install the lines to it. But all is well for now. Went for a few spirited runs ~10 miles and checked again, no leaks. Everything is going to go back on Almost 100 degrees today, oil temp sits @ 190-200. Saw 210 for a breif moment Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Oil flow restricted to the VVEL system causing it to tick louder. This is due to oil sandwich adapter.

When you cool your oil, the viscosity goes up. Higher viscosity oil doesn't flow as well. I thinned my oil down a little after my oil cooler install to achieve factory spec viscosity rating with cooler oil.
