Default oil temperature - 2013 370Z coupe 17,000 MILES

New used Z owner here..

Wondering what temperature others have?

me -normal driving 185-200 degrees

when playing it will go up to 225 degrees

(so far have changed exhaust and Filters only)

With these high rev engines and 3,000 mile oil changes I was wondering about installing a oil cooler? anyone know apprx cost or what is recommended?

FYI - I do not plan on tacking this car to the track, but am enjoying the power.

Thanks

Otis

This car should have come with a proper oil cooler. Get a 25 row or 34 row one and that will square everything away. Also having a tuner adjust the fan timing (when it kicks in) helps as well.

If you can change the oil, you can install an oil cooler.

You probably don't need an oil cooler, synthetic oils work fine well beyond the point of limp mode temps which you don't even seem to be getting close to hitting. There are plenty of kits around, Z1 and stillen are both fine. But any time you add more connectors and fittings you add more places where a failure could occur, and I wouldn't trust the oil warning light to come on early enough in the event of a leak to save the engine.

if you are thinking of any any track time (even for just couple laps) then you will need an oil cooler or you will spend more time cooling your car than racing

There isn't an issue with the stated temperatures. In most cases, you can expect to get from point A to B safely and never enter limp mode.

But yeah, in more select cases such as tracking and spirited driving, the temperatures spike real fast only to be met with a very slow cool down in comparison. One issue I have is I live on the top of a hill (~15% grade or so) with stop-and-go intersections. Route is just like 3/4th's of a mile yet my oil temps can jump from 160 to 200 degrees. It's not like I'm massively slipping the clutch either because I'll even roll a bit to cheat stops

I had a passenger once and I was thinking I'd be f****ed as I was reaching 220's.

ECU will start to pull timing at 230F. If you just DD, a 25 row cooler would be your best bet for peace of mind. IF you have thought of tracking some day. Get a 34 row cooler from Z1, or FI.
