Default Clunking noise

I have a random clunking noise that I've been noticing in the Z. To me it kind of sounds like it's in the front suspension, so being under the impression it was under warranty, I took it to Nissan. The guy at the service center took it around the parking lot a little bit and he is saying that to him it sounds like something along the lines of having to pull the rear drive shaft out and lubricating the rear splines. He said this is very common with the Z. Does anyone here have any thoughts of this or experience to this extent?

im old school, any clunking in rear was always driveline oriented as in U joints or that rearend thing that comes out of rear diff.(the bearing in it)

I'm just wondering what is this common clunking but can be solved by putting grease on the splines of the rear axle?

Check your rear diff bushing to see if it busted and is leaking, heard mine during only left hand turns and was random.

Is that common for a car that only has 40,000 miles?

Mine went out at 55k, but ive seen them go out at 30k. Easy to see, get under and look at the diff and see if there is some type of grease that has leaked on it, you will be able to see it.

Well, that sounds like it would be covered under my 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.

Whelp... Nissan found the problem. I had an alignment done at Kauffman Tire a few weeks ago and apparently they failed to tighten the rear tie rod bolts. Nissan called them saying they needed to charge them for the fix. Home boy at Kauffman turned into a **** and wasn't going to accept (Kauffman's customer service has gone to crap lately). This brought on the wrath of Mrs. BoneZ on the KAuffman dude, who ultimately ended up paying Nissan for everything.

I will never go to Kauffman again. Too bad, because I was just about to buy my wider tires there.

Nissan has had a service bulletin out for several years now which address a problem that appears similar to yours:

Rear axle click/clunk at start/just before stop.

Nissan has a TSB for another company not tightening my tie rod bolts?
