Facing issues with 7AT
Hey guys.
The automatic transmission on my 2009 transmission feels like rubbish, its rough when it changes gears and it lags like crazy when I put my foot down on the throttle all the way. I've taken it to the nissan dealer twice and they couldn't replicate the problem and now i don't know what to do. I'ts not fun to drive at all like this. People have suggested I reset the ECU which I have done and it hasn't really helped. I'd appreciate it if anyone can give me their insights on this. |

If you are sure the transmission is at fault, take it to another dealer. I'd also have the fluid level and condition checked. Probably time to have it changed.

Agree with the service the trans idea, but there is no way to check it yourself, If you have the dealer check it I would just have them change it and also I would look into the software update from the dealer for the tranny also

I despise the shift action in D so much I drive in manual mode everywhere, using the paddle shifters. I'm wavering between a tune (raise the line pressure to decrease shift time) and a Level 10 valve body upgrade.

Getting a tune should help a bunch as long as the trans isn't damaged. Mine was really strong doing that and shifted fast/hard but its hard on the clutch plates. If you do it with ecutek take all the positive numbers to +65-75 range and do not touch the negative numbers.

What's the milage on your Z & you can check it from underneath/// you either have to raise the car or drive up on ramps & then raise the rear to a level position (put on support stands)
Let car cool down all the way & look underneath at trannys pan & you will see 2 plugs; a 5mm Allen & a 19mm hex. The 5mm Allen is the overfill plug; start car & let idle a couple minutes/ remove 5mm plug & only a couple drops should come out,,,as engine & transmission begin to warm up,fluid should begin to drop at a steady rate....using a heat gun on the pan///about 105-110degrres.....engine will be almost to normal temp until Trannys temp reaches this. You can touch the pan & it's slightly warm. If you lack mechanical experience;let a trained tech ck it. Also, I flushed mine @50,000 miles & should have done it sooner, looked like coffee-but wasn't burnt. PM me if you need imfo on flushing & filling yourself/ also you can phone Oat @ Level Ten transmission in New Jersey,,,(Very good people) Have fun.

How many miles does your Z have? Any Mods?
How many seconds is the delay on when you put your foot down until it becomes responsive? If its like a second then this is normal for the 7AT. If its like 3 seconds then take it to another dealer.

I had this issue with my AWD G37 and I finally got it resolved with Seb's tune. This issue lingered though my previous uprev AND ecutek tunes and it really killed my driving experience. It honestly came to a point where I thought it was the nature of the transfer case.
I read plenty of this issue on the boards and some people have mentioned certain solutions like you listed: ECU Reset - Dealer flash for TSB. I also did my whole fueling system (Fuel return + pump/injector upgrade) before getting tuned by Seb, so those could also be other factors as well. I'm pretty certain it was the tune though because the issue was happening on the BASE tune that Seb sent me. It went away after he started actually making adjustments. |
