Angry 370Z AT 2012 weird behavior

Yesterday night I was driving uphill to access another highway (40 mph, third gear, AT transmission, manual mode)

When I reached the highway, I throttled to achieve the new speed and the car just did not responded.

No throttle response (like a total disconnection), RPM was as if the car were idled (but not be able to accelerate, like idle revving), I was not able to change gears (on the paddle shifts or gear shift) and I started to loss speed for almost 6/7 seconds.

The best description is: Imagine your car at 40 mph, on Neutral, flat road, but with no throttle response and no revving, (as if the car was turned off), slowly losing speed.

I tried to change the gear shift to full auto (no response, still M on the panel), then back in M mode, and still not responding.

Suddenly, the car woke up again, as if nothing had happened.

No warning signs, stability control warning, temperature changing, absolutely nothing, the car just stopped responding.

What is happening?

I've had that happen, but I'm a manual,
Kind of sad to hear more and more about these random, throttle response, or no power, or random limp mode stories,

Check your brake switch to make sure it's working properly, some members had one preventing the ecu to make power (safety reasons I'm guessing)

Or maybe a camshaft sensor or a map sensor, could be a lot of things tbh

Most people just reset the ecu by takin off the negative on the battery and putting it back on, and call it a day..

This happened to me twice in my three years of ownership. There's actually a thread that discusses this issue, but I don't recall where exactly it is. Anyway, this happened in early 2013, about 2 months after I purchased the Z. I was at a stop light on a service road and was about to turn left on a freeway. It was a bit warm, about 80 degrees, but nothing out of the ordinary for Guam. I've been driving for about 15 minutes and everything was fine, but as soon as the light turned green and I turned left to merge, my car lost power. It didn't hesitate or stall--it simply didn't want to accelerate. No warning lights, no unusual sounds; the car just didn't want to rev past 2K or 3K RPMs. I was confused and more than a little upset over the "limp mode" characteristic my brand new car was exhibiting at the time, but I drove it for another 10 minutes to my destination. I did what I had to to in the shop for 20 minutes, and by the time I jumped in my car, everything was back to normal. My car didn't overheat, so I still don't know what happened.

OK KrnAndy. I will think about the ECU reset… any chance that delete some important configuration that requires further intervention? Maintaining this car here is quite complicated.
The sensor option is a little difficult where I live, the Nissan here do not sell this car on dealers, I imported this car… : /

Wonka: recently refueled, half tank, premium gas, BUT, It is a weekend car (4 years with just 4000 miles), I do not know if it can influence something.

Angelo: I think this is the second time it happens. The first one(about 1 year ago) was in a downhill, after a 90 degree turn. I thought it might be the stability control avoiding acceleration, but lasted the same time.

I'd check the brake switches.

Could also be fuel starvation. Were you making a long, hard turn?

Check the ECU and see if any DTCs have been thrown. OBD/CAN scanners are cheap and very handy to have when troubleshooting.

Hi SouthArk!

What is a brake switch?

No, this time was a short/medium wide turn, uphill, 40mph. Like ramp to access another lane.

The switches on the brake pedal. One of those will cause the ECM to limit power output (car thinks you are applying brakes). See FSM (link in my sig) for details.

Search for "fuel starvation" on this site. You can also use any of the major web search engines and add "site:the370z.com" to your search string.
