I'm just wondering if I should grease my new pilot bearing or leave t be. I've never greased one before but I've heard some people say you need to.

Oil it until oil seeps out the pores of the bearing. The pilot bearing is a porous bronze sleeve that holds a lot of oil. The needle bearing pilot bearings are good for racing and lower friction but not for years of use.
For the average owner that changes the clutch after its worn out after a few years, the bronze pilot bearing is a better choice.

Do what type of grease/ oil should I use? Also, my z1 flywheel came in and the clutch surface is a little oily. Should I wipe it up before installing?

Never grease an oilite bearing, it will clog the pores in the sintered metal and wear much quicker. A little oil (2-3 drops of 5w30) would not hurt, but it really is not needed as the oillite bushing is pre-oiled.
As for the oil on the flywheel and pressure plate surface, it is a oil coating to prevent rust during storage and shipping. YOU MUST CLEAN IT ALL OFF WITH A SOLVENT THAT DOES NOT LEAVE ANY RESIDUE. Some use brake clean and a clean rag. Good luck with the new clutch install. |
