Bad Master Cylinder?
Hey all. So i've had problems with my clutch having very high engagement ever since i purchased the car from a previous owner. I ordered the RJM Clutch system, and it still has very high engagement. I started going over everything I could think of and thought I checked the Clutch fluid but I guess i checked the brake fluid by accident. Anyways, I go to check the clutch fluid and to my suprise it is super dirty and has something floating in it. Is this the seals from the master cylinder disintegrating or is it contamination? Should i just bleed the system with new fluid or should I get a new Master Cylinder?

It's not necessarily from the CSC or MC. Engagement point just means it was setup high, seal failure would be weak or lack of engagement. The clutch system seems to be more exposed to the atmosphere then the brake fluid, I'm on my 3rd fluid flush while only ever needing to change the brake fluid once because the water content of the clutch fluid goes from less then 1% to over 4% in 6 months. Knock on wood my clutch system though is still doing good.
Flush, maybe twice with that amount of junk in it, being the 2nd owner who knows maybe the first guy forgot to put the cap on for awhile. |

You can hope. Bleed it and cross your fingers, but in all likelihood those chunks of black stuff are the internal seals of the factory CSC and you're on borrowed time. At least have a Plan B in your head of what you'll do if the CSC dies- do you swap the clutch and flywheel at the same time, etc.

Yea i was really hoping that the previous owner had changed the CSC seeing as how it has 95k miles, and everything else is basically upgraded. I guess i'll have to convince the wife to let me get a new clutch, flywheel, master cylinder, stainless steel lines, and CSC. Haha wish me luck!

Well went in and changed out everything. Previous owner had a HD CSC in it already, but I still replaced it. It was either the Master Cylinder or the Slave that was creating the high engagement as now its smooth as butter and has a lower engagement.
