7AT - 7th gear isn't *locking*(?)
So I was driving on the freeway today and I noticed my RPM was unusually low for 80mph @ 7th gear.
Normally, the RPM would be at 2600ish, but last night, it was down to 1200. So I decided to gas it a little and the RPM shot all the way up to 3500 and the car still wouldn't accelerate. I pumped the pedal to see if it would "catch" at 2600 RPM and finally, it did after a few pumps. Torque converter not locking? I have no idea what is going on. |

Sounds like it could need a band adjustment, or clutch replacement,. Curious as to how many many miles are on it? Hopefully still under warranty.

Well, I just hit 42k miles.. so I think I still have powertrain. That being said, the car is only driven really hard at the track or driven with spirit at the canyons. I noticed the transmission slips pretty badly when it gets to spirited driving, maybe time for a cooler. Have you had any issues with yours yet?

You probably need a replacement as well as a cooler. Eagle is the guy to talk to

Sounds like the clutch pack for 7th may be going. I had my trans built by Level 10 and they did an amazing job (I track my G regularly)

Is the shifts noticeably faster? I'm gonna try to go to the dealership and see if flushing might help. |

If I were you, I would try to get a replacement transmission under warranty. Then I would either go easy on the track with the stock AT or ship it off to Level 10 for a nice upgrade that means you probably won't ever have to worry about the AT again (until you put a lot more power to it). Good luck!

Hi Endy,
DEPoint50 sent me over...basically you have 2 options.... 1. Get transmission fixed and send to level 10...needless to say that's gonna be expensive, but worth it since you'll be addressing the root cause. 2. Get transmission fixed, get oil cooler...i recommend at least a 25 row setrab with high quality AN fittings and steel braided hose. I'm not sure where you're located but my local shop basically has the recipe for how to mount and setup the cooler. Also, frequent transmission oil changes are necessary (every 10k miles) if you are tracking. The heat from tracking causes the fluid to break down quickly and then the torque converter starts to go Lemme know if you have more questions. Eagle Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

Shoot, didnt know you replied until now. Yeah, I have been tracking the car about once/twice a year. As of late, I did throw on a transmission oil cooler and replaced the fluid. Unfortunately, the transmission has become worse than before and now, about 10% of my stop and go driving, it feels like a newbie being late in releasing the clutch as he's gassing it and then suddenly dumping the clutch. I am looking into level10, but not before my warranty runs out. Gonna try to see if I can get a claim in before it expires. (in 2017). However, it is going to be down the line since I do plan/wish on SCing my car. Thanks for the reply Eagle. Last edited by EndyKwon; 05-17-2016 at 04:05 PM. |
