Oil Cooler Questions..
I see most people have there oil cooler hoses coming out from the top of the cooler is there a reason installing this way?
How do you drain old oil if your hoses are on top? Does installation of the oil cooler void warranty? Thanks. |

No mods void your warranty. If the part causes a failure, that particular claim may be denied. A quality oil cooler installed properly will not cause you problems.
The old oil that stays in the core is nothing to worry about.

The reason why the hoses are on top of the cooler is that when you shut the engine off. Most of the oil will drain back into the engine sump. So when you start it up again. That oil has to flow back into and through the cooler before it gets into the engine. So there is a chance that you will be pushing air/foam through the bearings. Some have the cooler mounted the with hoses on the bottom with no problems so far. But why take a chance. As for the oil change. There is not that much to worry about.

Thanks all
Is filter relocation make any difference or its unnecessary? Where to buy parts? Im thinking on buying 24 row oil cooler from Z1. (Is it quality product?) How much extra oil do I need to add with the cooler? |

Where you're at. I would go with a 34 row. I have the Z1 34 row. FI makes a good 34 row too. Figure about 3/4 quart the first time. Fill the cooler with oil, install the hoses. Then mount the cooler the the radiator support. Being careful not to tilt the cooler. This way, you won't have too much air in the system when you first start.

Page 2 of my journal has some pictures. Think my holes lined up. But had to cut the sheet metal plate above the oil cooler for the oil lines. And relocate the horn. Also had to use a spacer behind the mounts for the Nismo frame dampener, and flip it around to fit.

Its secure i tried moving and it won't move. I have an 09 non nismo, the upper mounting bracket and the two head bolts are steady enough, if anything comes loose i'll get a new bracket fab'd up.

I have the 34 row from Z1. I would def get a 34 row if you live in Puerto rico and if you also plan on going fi in the future. mine lined up perfectly

I'm from the Virgin Islands (next to Puerto Rico) and I run a stillen 19 row and gonna upgrade to the 25 row prior to going turbo. It all depends on how you drive or the purpose of your car. If it's a DD and you don't beat on it regularly, the 24 row is fine. If your car is a track queen then get the 34 row.
