Default SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is on ! ?

just an hour or so ago, i made a left turn from the lights and pressed the gas and before it could switch gears i heard a POOF sound with the SES light coming on at the same time and the car came to a rolling stop. i put the car in park and tried revving the engine but it wouldnt go past 2000 rpm or so. turned the car off, waited 5 to 10 mins trying to call for help as i panicked and turned it on and the car ran again, but with the light still on..... im wondering what the problem could be? and im paranoid about taking it to nissan bc what if they bs and say theres something serious wrong when there isnt or such.

the Z is an automatic with 22,000 kms i believe.

Probably fuel starvation. Keep the tank at least half full. Get an OBD/CAN scanner and clear the DTC.

I'd go ahead and buy a scanner but you can borrow or rent them at most auto parts stores.

Since most of the car's functions are computerized and use the CAN bus, a scanner is a very valuable tool for troubleshooting modern cars. You can find them at most auto parts stores for less than $50 to several hundreds, depending on how fancy they are. A $40-60 one will work quite well for most shadetree mechanics.

CAN.

Edit: Before you clear any DTCs, write 'em down.
JARblue and Memphis370Z like this.

Thnx for the info, I'll buy one tomorrow and I'm hoping it's nothing serious but it sounds serious, no idea why something weird like that would happen to a new car

Most people notice the fuel starvation on the right hand turns. OP were you in manual mode?
