High RPM Driving.
Hello, so I was curious. Is it bad to drive my Z at higher RPM's? I have the AT and occassionally use the paddles, shifting at about 4000-4500 RPM's then coasting usually between 2500-3500 RPM's. Also, when slowing, I love downshifting to hear the Rev-Matching jump up to 4000 RPM's for a quick second. How harmful, if at all, is doing these things to the engine?
Thanks. |

Only 4000-4500? Huh..... I mean, yeah sure, me too. I mean I know this guy who shifts at 6500-7000 during spirited driving, what could he expect, for science?

Your fine, the higher RPM's is where the Z comes alive. On the down shitfs, it could cause a little more heat into the trans causing the fluid to need to be changed faster, but nothing too serious. Enjoy the car & just keep it under 7,500 , as you can starve for oil.

If anything it will be the clutch packs in the 7AT but I wouldn't worry about it. I ran my 7AT with it supercharged for two years while tracking it and it never failed me. It was 418whp running to red line and downshifting as hard as it could and still had no problems. I just had it rebuild and there was a lot of clutch material in the fluid but you will not push it that hard on the street. N/A and on the street I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You are fine. If its for a few seconds. If you are keeping it at 4-5K for minutes then you take the risk of overheating and oil consumption.

It's a Z, that's what they're meant to do. Rev the **** out of it and enjoy your car Maybe grab an oil cooler for the summer w/ a thermostatic plate.

Driving around at higher revs = more fun, nice engine noise, car feels more responsive as the car really starts to pull around 5500 revs, waste more fuel, marginally wear out components faster, more heat, more smiles.

Yes, higher RPMs will mean a little more wear and tear, but, as has been mentioned, it's a sports car - drive it like one. If you want to putt around, get a sedan. Stay below the redline and change your oil often and you will be fine.

They come Alive at those RPM's, that's why they up shift @ 7500 when you leave it in the "Drift" mode & rpm's fall back in the 5k range; unfortunately I haven't been able to play with mine lately/ due to the excessive rainfall here in SC.
As mentioned; keep tranny serviced & keep eye on oil temp gauge.... May need to add aux. coolers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
