Jack/ jack stand procedure for lifting whole car
Okay, so I got my 3-ton low-profile floor jack and my four jack stands and my picture of where to jack and where to place the jack stands--but what's the best way? Front first with a jack stand on either side, then the rear? Or the other way around? Chock the wheels, set the brake, yeah, but it seems like the car may want to roll. I've seen some pics of guys lifting each side first.
How do you guys do it? Last edited by JerryK; 04-14-2015 at 08:13 PM. Reason: email notification |

I either do side to side or front first then back. I never do back first because there is more clearance in the back. If you jack the back up first, the front end will point down even lower and make it harder to maneuver the jack under the car. I prefer to jack the front up just enough to get the jack stand under the car and in position (both sides). Then lift the back as high as I can get it and put the jack stands under the car. I then go around to the front and lift the front again to even it out with the back and raise the jack stands to match the back ones. I leave the E-break on when I jack the car up. Don't jack the car up on inclines or declines, flat surfaces only!

I have some race ramps...pull the front up on those then i jack the rear up under the rear diff to desired hieght..put the jack stands where the lower spring pearch arm attaches nearest to the rear ssub frame. I should mention i put one of my race ramps over a ratchet strap so i can secure the front prior to jacking the rear. I run it through one of the front rims. Gotta do it a bit different if you have front wnd maint to perform.

If I drive one front tire up on a single piece of 2x laid flat (I use a section of 2x12), I can access the front jack point with my floor jack. This allows me to set both front jacks at the same time. Then I jack up the rear using the differential jack point. Voila!
Note that I am stock height. Aftermarket lips or front bumpers can affect your ability to access the front jack point. Aftermarket side skirts can affect your ability to access the side pinch rails. And aftermarket exhausts can affect your ability to access the rear differential jack point.

Crank the brake. With a low profile jack positioned at the rearmost (exposed) end of the front rail, jack one whole side of the car. Place stands and repeat on the other side.
