4.08 gears and SRM
ok guys so ive been hearing lots and lots of different things about 4.08 gears and losing SRM. many threads on here about losing SRM wth 4.08 gears. question number one.: by "losing SRM" does it mean when u downshift it wont blip the throttle for u or rpms will be a bit off? question two: does it really affect it at speeds around 80 mph or is it just continuous redline shifts?two people just told me that it didnt affect SRM ever for them....unless this one guy he hit 140 and the light came on but im almost never gonna hit 140 and dont plan on it with roads around here.. question 3: which would win in a race from a 40 roll with the same mods....a stock ratio or 4.08? im asking bc since we lose mph if theres 4.08 the stock z could be at 3rd gear at 5500 rpm we'll be in 4th gear already...therefore giving them the advantage or more power in lower gear.....

LuLz! Yes, the Z's ECU does loooooze what gear its in when u go to a lower Final Drive (FD). It usually happens when u rip thru the gears. It will come back though and stay if u drive like an old man. SRM will not work of coarse. Don't UPREV offer a table where u can select what FD u have installed on the Z so SRM works properly?
I would hope a 4.08 FD Z would whoop a 3.69 FD Z from a 40mph roll race if u both start out in 2nd. WTF would start out in 4th going 40mph! |

I still keep in touch with the guy that bought my Z. He just text me the other day and told me he had the 4.08 FD installed. I asked about SRM and if any issues and he says it's still working perfectly. We are going to meet up next week so I'll get behind the wheel and see for myself.

I have the 4.08 FD installed in my Z. SRM still works so you still have the "blip" when downshifting. BUT the SRM does not meet the rev perfectly so it's maybe 200 RPM lower than it'd be without the 4.08 FD. That's the only difference. It's simply not that super smooth and perfect anymore... but still close and you get used to it very quickly.
The other thing is that if you rev harsh into redline it MIGHT happen that the SRM gets deactivated and can't be turned on again until you restart your engine. But that does not happen very often... seldom... if ever. |

For sure there is no problem with the SRM but of course it does not match the RPM as perfect as before. Known thing.
And yes, it's for sure worth every penny . Much more aggressive! During the 1.5 years I have the 4.08 installed it happened two times that it SRM was deactivated after hitting harsh into redline. |

To follow up on this thread, I had the 4.08 gears installed last week, took my car to the race track Sunday and Saturday. I have found the following to be true:
1. Highrev downshifts, like when going into hard braking zones, will disable SRM. 2. Hitting the Rev limiter will disable SRM. 3. If you are just daily driving around town, then you should not have a problem. If anyone has any info on UpRev fix/setting FD ratio, please chime in.

Too bad, either way I have already ordered those aluminum pedals with the side extender. I know how to heel-toe, but for some reason on this car my foot just can not agree with the pedal layout. Last weekend I was doing the brake/lift brake/stomp gas/maybe brake again shuffle all weekend lol.

I'm finding out why people hate SRM on these. Mine is broken, and that was soon after my friend's failed on his car. No gears on either of the cars.
