Reverse bulb install question...

I'm stuck. I've unbolted everything including the 3 bolts on the tail light....which direction do I need to pull/push so as not to break the clips holding the tail light

I've unbolted everything including the 3 bolts on the tail light....which direction do I need to pull/push so as not to break the clips holding the tail light in? one DIY says forward but I'm thinking pull back to the rear based on how the taillights are snug towards the front.
