Default Vehicle Speed Signal - Finally an answer!

No warranty or guarantee is provided for these instructions; you follow them at your own risk. I can't vouch for their completeness or accuracy. If you are at all uncomfortable or inexperienced working on vehicles, electronics, or mechanical parts, please reconsider doing the job yourself. It is very possible on any project to void your factory warranty, disable a safety feature, create a hazardous condition, harm or even kill yourself or others. Examples would be the vehicle failing on you, getting an electric shock, or disabling an airbag to name a few.

About a year ago I was looking for the location of the vehicle speed signal to connect the speed cable from my HU. Well, I searched on the forums found this.

So I referred to the service manual and found out this cable is only present on bose systems with or without nav. Base audio systems do not have it...

Today I needed somewhere to feed this sneaky speed signal to my EVC 6 so I can program boost per speed... and... I found it! It's on the combination meter. The signal comes from the ABS sensor and talks via CAN to the speedo. Refer to FSM Section MWI page 60 and 61.

I removed the gauge cluster following this instructions by Digi DIY: Interior LED Color Change and found the 2 connectors shown above right underneath the cluster.

Take a look at the 24 pin connector where pin 4 should be..

There is nothing on pin 4. But look at the FSM again and the (L) blue cable on pin 3 is also a speed signal. It's a 2 pulse instead of 8 but it works... and there you go, tap into that and you now have a speed signal source.

If anybody knows of an 8 pulse speed signal source on a nismo (base) please disregard all this, and share! If you found this helpful... rep!

Good post. I just installed my EVC6 last night, replacing my EVC5 so I could have boost by speed.

I will add to this. I did not want to remove my cluster to get to this 2 pulse speed signal wire, so I followed the wire in the service manual to see if it went somewhere more convenient for me. It did.

Behind the glove box, top and center, is the Power steering control box. Pin 8 is the same wire. Its in the second position in the second row, the blue wire.

Be careful, its barely got any slack from the harness, and its a rather small gauge. So if you broke it or accidentally cut it when trying to strip it, its hard to solider or crimp up in there... I know because I broke the wire and had to do this LOL.

Anyway, worked out perfect for me and it was already in the path of where my EVC wiring was passing by.

I got the throttle position signal for the EVC6 off the .5-4.75 volt output from the accelerator pedal. I went for this wire straight at the ECU main connector.
