DIY Power Steering full fluid change
Found a different technique to flush out and change all the fluid with vacuum extractor and going through return line.
1. First remove air filter housing next to power steering reservoir. 2. empty out content of reservoir with vacuum pump. 3. lift out the reservoir from it's bracket. 4. disconnect return line, (it's the port on tank pointing straight down) 5. Seal off the port with a 3/8 vacuum cap 6. put reservoir back on bracket and fill it up with new fluid. if you have a good cap on the port, it won't leak 7. use vacuum pump to extract fluid through the return line, you will see the level go down in the reservoir. Replenish before you get to bottom, you don't want to get air in the system. Once you have pulled a quart (a liter) you should have flushed out all the old fluid. 8. time the flush out so that you have only a little left in the reservoir once you get to extracting that 1 quart. 9. take reservoir off the bracket, take off the vacuum cap and reconnect the return line to the tank. 10. reinstall tank on bracket, refill with new fluid and re-install air box. |
