Default DIY: Fix Your Hatch Lift Springs for $0.02

DIY: Fix Your Hatch Lift Springs for $0.02

Time: 1 - 2 mins

Required Tools:
1) Two pennies

Instructions:
1) Push your hatch release button twice.

2) Open hatch.

3) Twist the Spring and remove.

4) Peel off the outer cover.

5) Lay everything out.

6) Introduce the penny!

7) Insert penny between the two rubber peices and insert into the outer cover.

8) Reassemble the outer cover to the spring.

9) Reinstall for a clean OEM look!

YOU’RE DONE!

Enjoy that odd feeling of just pressing your hatch release button once.

BTW, if that's not enough, then use a nickel.

Like i said, try a nickel if it doesn't work. You could also remove the dead weight in the hatch if you have a wing.

You're correct. The nismo hatch actually came with longer springs. When I installed a nismo spoiler on my sport, my hatch had this problem. Thought I needed stronger struts. I bought heavy duty struts and had the same problem. I then pulled the springs off the nismo hatch I took the spoiler from and matched them up to the sport springs. They were a little longer. I installed them and it's worked perfect ever since.

I'm surprised that no one has written up this DIY yet. I used 3 pennies on each side and it lift the hatch very nicely. You'd have to have a pretty big spoiler for it not to lift!!
