Default Rhino Ramp Extensions

So, you can spend like $10000000 on race ramps. Or, you can spend a total of $80 on Rhino Ramps and your own homemade extensions...I had a lot of fun figuring this thing out. I made sure to use exact angles so the extensions don't destroy the car while it is going up/down. And, there is about 2" clearance on my 16 NISMO.

What you need:
1x 2x10x16ft board
24x 1/4x2.5" wood screws
Starter Drill bit for screws
Drill
2x 5/8x2.5" bolts
2x washers/nuts for said bolts
A friend's table saw
A friend's reciprocating saw
A friend's miter saw
Ruler/tape measure
Set of 8000 Rhino Ramps

Step 1: Go to your local hardware store and purchase your 2x10x16ft board. Have them cut it so you have 2x 48" pieces and 2x 30" pieces. You will have some left over for blocks or whatever you want to make. While youre there, get all of your other hardware required.

Step 2: Go to your local auto store and purchase the 8000 series rhino ramps. They are like $40.

Step 3: Either you or someone you know has the saws you need to do this job. I asked around my work and 3 folks had the equipment. So I picked the guy I liked most and traded a 6-Pack of beer for an hour of time to use the saws.

Step 4: The sketchiest step by far. Here is where I throw out the safety warning of don't do this without the proper protection and supervision to use metal blades ready to remove fingers...The rhino ramps have a really shallow angle that miter saws can't cut. You want to match the angle of the ramps with the board so the boards don't flip up and destroy your side skirts. Don't worry, I did the math for you. Set the table saw angle to 16 degrees. Then stand the board up in the air length wise and make the cut.

That image shows the angle the saw should be at and how the rail should be set. DO NOT COPY THE BOARD IN THE PIC. Again it should be standing up tall with the skinny section facing you on the table.

Make this cut on one end of all 4 boards. Some table saws might not be able to cut through the pressure of the 10" width. If you have to, lower the blade and make the cut to start the angle. Then is the reciprocating saw to finish the cut while the board is clamped to a table. The board should end up looking like this:

Step 5: On the other end of the board, rotate the board so the angles will be on opposite sides and use a miter saw to cut 45 degree bevels on all 4 boards. This will help the car get up the ramps. The hard parts are now complete!!!

Step 6: set the 30" board on top of the 48" board aligning the shallow angle cuts to where the lines are seamless. Then, pull the boards up to the rhino ramps for alignment. Make sure that the boards stay flat on the ground when aligning to the rhino ramps. Once aligned, DO NOT move the boards.

Step 7: using a drill bit, make starter holes to secure the boards together with the wood screws.

Step 8: Mark where the top of the boards meet the ramp. Then remove the boards and measure the distance from the mark to the hole already in the rhino ramps (almost like destiny). Keep the ruler level with where the board would be. Then use that distance to mark on the board. Drill a 5/8" hole in the board and drop in the nut and washer and secure it with the bolt.

Step 9: drop the bolt into the hole in the rhino ramp and repeat with the other ramp. You are done! Now, just be careful pulling your car up the ramps!
