Painting a polished CAI ?

So I got my Takeda Attack stage 2 in today thing is I wanted it to be red from the beginning. I thought I would find all kinds of info or videos showing a good way to paint it and what paints to use. I'm thinking a high heat or ceramic type paint. Maybe caliper paint? I'm wondering how to correctly paint polished intake tubing and what paint would be best to use so it sticks and has at least a little heat resistance. Don't troll me please I really did try searching but I only found for rough surfaces or sand blasting which I don't have access to. I've painted calipers before but those are rough and pitted of course this is a little different.

Thanks for any advice I want this done right so if I need to wait and have them sand blasted I will but if it's possible to paint poilished aluminum properly then I will. I want it red btw not that the color should mater?

You should just be able to scuff it with some wet/dry sandpaper, and paint. I would use a 400 or 600 grit. I don't believe you need a high heat paint in this situation.

Like ron said, just use some sandpaper. Personally, I would pick up a spray can of primer paint as well to ensure that your red paint sticks well. Let the primer dry well before applying paint, and let the paint dry well also, before you install it and tighten couplings down on it.

Already started lol I'm impatient using duplicoler anodized red anyone know how to get paint out of jrans? Lol

Pics will be posted once I'm done. I ran out of paint and had some run issues got a little carried away, btw kitchen not a good idea for this lol. I was cleaning red off the floor counters everything lol It was too cold for the paint to hold outside though. Also I'm not sure if I'm going to strip it back off and redo or let the runs and imperfections stay or even make more. It creates a red/black blended look I'm actually kinda liking it. Will decide which route I'm taking tomorrow once I have more paint.

Thanks for the looking in. BTW I did not sand it I did however use prep spray which I already had and alcohol to get all the oil from my hands off of it. Didn't want to sand it because if I ever want to go back to polish I can just strip the paint



As you can see on the left the blackish red blended line that's what I'm referring too and it does actually give a lot of unique colors in it almost like a pearlescent

Just my opinion...
Not liking the red finish on your intake tubes.
However,if thats the look you wanted,its your car.

You asked for input,but got impatient and went with probably
you wanted to do in the first place.

IMO,if you had to have red,I'd have done a red wrinkle finish.
This would give you more of a competition look.
Heck,Ferrari has used this forever!

So now you have more of a showcar look.

I was going to suggest some wrinkle red paint, but i guess im late to the party.

I used wrinkle red paint on an intake once and came out great! Lasted a while too

Inner yes it was dupli color metalcast anodized red specifically made for polished surfaces and thank you. South and p I may switch it to that later for now they are out of my paint anyway so I'm going to try and install it tonight and see how it looks and go from there but wrinkle red is almost too red for me I wanted something a little different. Will post pics after install. Not painting the lower tubes since they are never going to be seen anyway.

Took forever not as easy as they make it seem and it's not very noticeable sound wise on our engines. But it is in only problem was getting the damn silicon to line up it was dark once I got to this point and lining up the bumper in the dark definitely not a one hour job... Now I get a weird noise around 5.5k working on identifying it now but all clasps are tight no vacuum leaks triple checked install and no codes so maybe just part of this intake. That broken clasp is on both sides is that just for Nismos? It is riveted into the bumper and both sides broke it doesn't go back on just a small claps and it only lease about a quarter inch on both sides at the ends of the bumper bottom right in front of the wheel. I have day pics just not loaded right now. Overall I ended up liking the color wrinkle red is nice but I like this look for now.

Just an fyi but you could have used plastidip too, would make it easier to peel off later or switch out color as you like, people have used it on their exhaust tips and no issues.
