Dr. Colorchip

Buying one of these kits to touch up my Z but I'm concerned about the color matching. I own a 2009 "Magnetic Black" and the color code says Black Pearl.

Buying one of these kits to touch up my Z but I'm concerned about the color matching. I own a 2009 "Magnetic Black" and the color code says Black Pearl. I'm not sure if this is the same paint, but it's the only black color they have. I'm also planning painting a body kit with the same code (G41) but I haven't bought that paint yet either so I'm even more concerned about the color code being correct lol.

I can't speak for mag black, but I got dark cherry pearl for my wife's odyssey. And paint was spot on. In fact 10000% better than Honda factory touch up paint and I have been told that it is mid tier in difficulty. The only color I hear that are problems are ones like the pearl white where some effect is in the clear. Thus the color hip is only base.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it, I actually looked it up on Google and apparently the official color is 'Magnetic Black Pearl" so I'm assuming the color flakes in my paint are in the clear coat, since White Pearl has the same effect.

If you go to their direct website and put in your info it will tell you weather it's a tri color or not. Only one for 370z that is would be pearl white. The tri color YES are only ones that they claim won't match.

Wow thanks a lot! I hadn't noticed the tricoat listing at the end before and missed it until you said something. That really helps me a lot. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the OEM paint isn't a PITA to get done on my body kit, gonna go with a two coat on that and see if the flakes show up in it. The black touch up paint they offer should definitely match for my knicks and dings.

I used the Dr colorchip for my Mag Black, thankfully it was inconspicuous spots and it worked well. Hardest part was getting it level and flat once the paint dried. I used it on another car on the hood and you do notice it, but its a lot better than it was. Again This is on chips and nothing significant.

Agreed, but again I would not expect it or any other product outside of a reprint to go unnoticed on large jobs. I know the squeegee kit I had it was somewhat easy to level but took two coats. I will say the squeegee kit scared me when I spread paint across hood I was like "oh no!!!" As it looked like it would be way off or streaky. And once I wiped down with their solvent solution and buffed afterwards most of the public would never know chips were there. I'm pretty picky on paint.
