Cloth Seat Insert Cleaning
Gentlemen,
My 2016 Roadster (demonstrator) has the leather and cloth insert seats in dove grey. There are some light stains (spilled coffee?) on the cloth of both seats. I have a carpet cleaning Bissell machine with the uphostery vacuum attachments. I'm assuming that its hot water/carpet cleaning solution would be the approach to use. The cross mesh of the seat material is my main concern. I don't want to fray or stretch it. Am I on the right track here? Gene |

I would be careful with the cleaning machine, I saw this warning in my owners manual. I haven't had to clean any serious stains on mine yet. Once in a while I wipe mine down with a damp cloth with a little dawn dishwashing cleaner on it. Just to get whatever might have gotten on it. Dan

OldGuyFla,
I appreciate the heads up, as I didn't see that in the Owner's Manual. I do have a foam bomb upholstery cleaner called Turtle Wax Power Out. I've used it many times on other cars with excellent results, but all of their interiors were of dark colours. It says to spray the foam directly on the seat material and massage in with a sponge until the foam disappears, then wipe off with a dry cloth. And it also says "test in an inconspicuous place first". So just where would an inconspicuous place be on these seats? What do you think? Gene |

Gentlemen,
I finally got around to cleaning the leather and cloth insert seats of my 2016 Touring Sport with the heated and cooled seat option. I had been concerned about using any kind of a cleaner that required some abrasion with a brush. I didn't want to hurt the criss cross mesh material that sits slightly above the woven cloth insert of the seat. After much investigative research, I settled on a product called "FOLEX Instant Carpet Spot Remover". It has the usual caution to "test in a hidden place before use to ensure the fabric is colour fast". Well, with the Touring Sport seats with the heat and cool option, there isn't any hidden spots available for testing. So I tested it on a chair in my home instead. It also directs you to spray the solution on the fabric and "agitate with your finger tips and blot with absorbent cloth". No brush!!!! After the seats had dried (I put just enough of the cleaner on the fabric to wet it, without saturating the material so that it ran through onto the seat heaters or any wiring underneath) I'm pleased to say that the stains are all gone. I couldn't be more pleased with the results! Gene |
