WARRANTY question !
i bought my Z in april so it hasnt been a yet just yet, but my fuel cap door is malfunctioning.
has anyone gotten their Z's serviced at a nissan dealership? or anywhere else and get the Z checked every 3 months or every 3K intervals like it says? im sure this problem is covered by nissans warranty, but i barely drive my Z and i dont see a reason to get it checked every 3 months or 3K, so if i take my issue to the dealership i bought it from, what will they ask me about where i got the maintenance check done, and wouldnt they want receipts for the every 3 months? i did a maintenance check in oct 2012 (6months) like the dealership told me to get it checked at and not the 3 that it says on the booklet. jan 2012 (9 months) which i barely drove because of the snow, and im waiting for april (12 months) to get it checked again. so since i bought the Z ive only got it checked once, what will the dealership as me for if i bring them my issue, will they ask for the receipt of my maintenance check and then ask why i dont take it in every 3 months, then void my warranty? |

They won't ask you a damn question
That's not their business All they need is, are you within 3years/36k miles (Translate into Canadia), and what's the problem? If the answer is "yes" to your car still being under the warranty, they'll replace the cap

btw i get my car serviced by a private mechanic where they let me drive the car on the lift, and no one else sits in the car, and my car is in my view at all times while work is being done on it, which were the two most important reasons why i chose private, as well as not having to worry about the private shop racking up my bill with bs things i need to purchase to renew or fix

Then go to another dealership. There's no correlation between gas lid and anything else, bringing it in for service wouldn't help. Now if your motor blows or consumes oil... That's a different story, then they'll ask for oil change records, but even if you did them yourself, you'd just have to show receipts for oil By the way, if that's your fear, you should look for another dealership. I have dealt with 2 dealers that would let me drive my car into their garage too, LOL

im fine with the private place i go to right now. and ive heard if you go to dealerships and franchised shops, they try to (HARD) sell you things you dont really need and really try to convince you that you need it, because thats how they make their money to survive. and if i went to a nissan dealership and they said i need random stuff, and i said no, they would try to void the warranty that way, so im staying clear from them when it comes to servicing, and i called 3 nissans, told me i couldnt drive it in, the mechanics where coveralls for a reason, getting dirty comes in there line of work and when they go home i doubt they sit in there own cars with there work coveralls, they change clothes, so, HELL no one is sitting in my car with greasy, smelly clothes and hands and shoes all inside the car and seats, GL getting it clean
well since you brought up the motor blowing and other bigger issues, do i HAVE to get my car serviced every 3 months or 3K intervals like it says on the manual in case something ever does happen? because i know a few people with brand new (cheaper) cars, who get their car serviced once a year or longer |

You're making too many assumptions and worrying needlessly.
Very few dealers are that picky about the oil change interval. I don't put a lot of miles on my car (<18k miles on an '09) and often go four to four-and-a-half months between changes. Nobody has said a word about it when I've had warranty work done. (But I've never needed a new engine/trans/diff.) As mentioned earlier, the dealer cannot require you to get your oil changes done there. All you need is receipts showing that you purchased/installed the proper oil and filter. As others have pointed out, the dealer can't reject a warranty claim on a body part just because you haven't taken care of the drivetrain (and vice versa). Your warranty is with Nissan, not the dealer. If you don't like the way the dealer painted the shop bays, you can go to another dealer and get your warranty work done.

Just go in and tell them it's not working properly. If they can replicate the problem, they'll fix it, no questions asked. If not, they may give you the run around, but it's your job to keep at it, if it is in fact defective.
....on a side note, are you sure it's malfunctioning? It only opens when the doors are unlocked.

when you press unlock on the key fob, the gas door should also unlock, and when you press lock on the key fob, the gas door should lock. it doesnt do that. i have to press unlock non stop until it opens, and im not sure at which moment it locks again, as i lock my car every time i get out to go some place. |
